New Humberstone Speedway Introduces Driver’s Association

Story By: STEVE PETTY / NEW HUMBERSTONE SPEEDWAY – PORT COLBORNE, ONT. CA – In 2019, a group of longtime track supports created the Humberstone Speedway Association of Drivers and Supporters in support of the driver’s point fund. The vision of the Driver’s Association is to continually promote grassroots racing, personal and professional excellence of each participant whether driver or spectator; to share community with like-minded individuals for the lifelong love of the sport in a caring, respectful and supportive environment. We believe racing is more than just a sport; it is family.

The initiative was started to help New Humberstone Speedway under the management of Dave Bitner Jr. to flourish with the end goal being that this track continues to be around for the next generation of racers and fans.

The group will be having fundraisers throughout the season to help build the driver’s point fund that will be distributed at the end of the season banquet. “New Humberstone Speedway is pledging $12,500.00 in point fund money and with everyone’s help and support, we will be matching that so $25,000.00 will be distributed to the drivers at the end of the season”, the group added. The first fundraiser will be a t-shirt sale starting on Sunday, June 2 for $20 each. The second event is a Beef and Pork BBQ on Sunday, June 30 from 4-6: 30 pm before the Canada Day weekend racing festivities takes place. The BBQ will feature beef or pulled pork, baked beans, coleslaw, and corn. Tickets can be purchased for $10 in advance or $12 on raceday. Tickets will go on sale starting June 2.

This year for the All Canadian weekend, there will be a $20 camping fee for the entire weekend. The fee must be paid prior to parking the camper at the track the weekend of the All Canadian Championships (August 4). Breakfast will be hosted by the Association the day of the All Canadian, Sunday, August 4 as well as a post-race, pre-race party BBQ. All proceeds going to the points fund.
