Modifieds Set For A Return To Glen Ridge This Sunday Night

Column By: BOBBY CHALMERS / RPW – FULTONVILLE, NY – Apparently, you can go home again…even for one night. As a fact finding mission to see if it’s a viable option, the Glen Ridge Motorsports Park will run Modifieds this Sunday night.

Currently as a one-time thing, track management has three other possible dates for races penciled in if all goes well. According to promoter Michael Parillo, this is something that many in the racing community have wanted to see.

“Everything has been great so far this season at the Ridge,” he said. “However, fans and racers have been asking for some time if we’d ever bring the Modifieds back to the speedway. With Utica-Rome off this week, and no other DIRTcar 358 races around, we figured this would be a great time to test it out. We’re going to see how this goes and evaluate from there.”

Several drivers & teams have committed to running the Ridge on Sunday including Bobby Varin, Jim Introne, Craig Hanson, Willy Decker, Jimmy Becker, Jack Lehner and the Nelson Motorsports #85 team. Excitement is growing for this event and Parillo can feel it.

“We’ve had a good number of people call and show interest in coming to run Sunday,” he said. “Varin has committed, and I think Rocky (Warner) and (Jessey) Mueller will be here too. Ray (Sefrin, co-promoter) and I also want to do this if it’s feasible. We’ll see what happens.”

The track will utilize the rulebook currently implemented at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway, including the weight requirements for Big Blocks and Small Blocks. The track has also advertised a $1,000 winner’s share for the event. If Sunday goes well, could we see the Modifieds back up on the Ridge?

“Right now, we have Sunday definite and we’re looking at one race a month right now if this first race works,” Parillo said. “If it’s good for the speedway, the racers and our bottom line, who knows. The class may make a comeback.”
