RPW Column: Josh Allen To Chase Short Track Super Series, OCFS Sportsman Titles In 2021

Column By: MIKE TRAVERSE / RPW – DINGMANS FERRY, PA – At 13 years of age, Josh Allen got in a partial season in the Rookie Sportsman Division at Thunder Mountain Speedway in 2020. With a new car and some confidence after a good first season, Allen is planning on racing the full Sportsman season at OCFS and following the Short Track Super Series.

Josh got his racing start in 2015 when his dad, Dave Allen, was operating the Oakland Valley Race Park.

“I got into racing when my dad ran the track. I got a couple of wins there,’ said Josh. “We had our eye on moving into the Sportsman and we started this past season in the Rookie Sportsman Division at Thunder Mountain. And I was fortunate to get my first win along with some other good finishes.”

The team used a Hig Fab Chassis in 2020. They were so pleased with it, they will have a new Hig Fab car for 2021.

“The group at Hig Fab are so on top of it with their Sportsman cars, you see so many winners in that division using their chassis,” Josh said. “Our plan is to use the new car for OCFS and use last year’s car for the S.T.S.S.”

The young 8th grader played football for his school team this fall and was planning on being on the wrestling team, but the Covid-19 situation ended those plans.

His goal for the 2021 season is to just do as well as he can in the points, both at OCFS and in the S.T.S.S.

His dad, Dave, was pleased with the 2020 performance.

“He had a good season. We got a late start, but still were able to get a win and quite a few 2nd place finishes,” Dave said. “Hopefully, everything works out well for the upcoming season.”

Sponsors for the team include Miller & Miller Pole Line Construction, Kandel Brothers Electrical Supplies (Middletown, N.Y.), Rob Sherlock Roofing and Escape R.V.

Besides his mom and dad, Gary Miller helps out on race nights.

With a solid season behind him, Josh Allen and his team look to be a contender at the tracks he will be racing at this year. Good luck in the 2021 season.
