York County Nationals Celebrates Fifth Running Sunday At BAPS; Fans Welcomed

Story By: BRETT DEYO / SHORT TRACK SUPER SERIES – NEWBERRYTOWN, PA – It’s an event that never disappoints.

This Sunday (July 19), the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco Modifieds make their fifth appearance at BAPS Motor Speedway for the mid-summer York County Nationals.

Fans are welcome to attend the event, which will also be streamed live on Dirt Track Digest TV. The 50-lap big-block/small-block Modified clash has provided its share of thrills on the red clay oval since the debut of the series at then Susquehanna Speedway in August 2016.

There have been four different winners in as many events contested at BAPS with the STSS.

On August 7, 2016, Anthony Perrego appeared destined for Victory Lane. A flat tire ended his hopes and Ryan Godown emerged with the win over Ryan Watt, Jeff Strunk, Stewart Friesen and Jimmy Horton.

Erick Rudolph utilized a late-race restart to snag the lead from Friesen on July 30, 2017 for his first STSS victory. Friesen, Craig Von Dohren, Strunk and Frank Cozze completed the front five.

After pitting twice, Matt Sheppard roared through the field on July 29, 2018, passing Friesen to put the Hurlock Auto & Speed No. 9s in Victory Lane. Friesen, Watt, Godown and Andy Bachetti finished second through fifth, respectively.

After back-to-back runner-up finishes, Friesen gained retribution July 14, 2019, fending off Sheppard, Jared Umbenhauer, Strunk and Bachetti.

A 50-lap feature again highlights the program, with $5,000 reserved for the winner, $1,000 for the 10th-place finisher and $400 just to take the green flag. A number of special awards and bonuses are also in place for this event.

For the 2020 edition, gates open at 4 p.m. Hot laps hit the track at 6:20 p.m., with racing at 7 p.m.

Adult admission is $25. Seniors (ages 60 and over) and Students (ages 13-17) pay $15. Kids 12 and under are FREE. Pit admission is $40, with no license required.
