RPW Exclusive: Mat Williamson Earns First Super DIRTcar Series Championship For Buzz Chew Racing

Column By: ROBERT SYMONDS / RPW – CHARLOTTE, NC –Mat Williamson earned the 2019 Super DIRTcar Series Championship by finishing ahead of Matt Sheppard, who had engine trouble early in the Finale at the Dirt Track At Charlotte. These wins were solid for the Bicknell Racing Chassis sweeping the week at World Finals. Williamson also set records as he is the first Canadian-born Series Champion.

“It is cool to be here right now, to do this is incredible,” Williamson said to Shane Andrews after champions were crowned. “I was really nervous entering today but when we got to the redraw, I calmed down a little more.”

During the interview, the Buzzchew Team sings the Canadian National Anthem “O Canada” as Williamson tries to answer Shane’s question. Shane then says “Let’s pause and take this in.” As the crew finishes, Williamson goes on.

“This team deserves the championship, they have helped me so much as a driver but they put everything into it and work really hard. The whole package, our whole crew and sponsors they deserve this championship.”

Williamson finished 2nd to Billy Decker in the can-am World Finals Finale on Saturday night while Matt Sheppard finished 4th with engine trouble. Matt Sheppard Racing on Facebook sent out the following post:
