RPW Exclusive: Change Of Plans; Spraker & Warner To Continue With Mod In ’19; Will Run Some Sportsman

Column By: RAY ROGERS / RPW – GLOVERSVILLE, NY – On March 18th, Race Pro Weekly reported that Rocky Warner and car owner Jake Spraker had decided to step back from Modified competition and would run Sportsman for the 2019 season.

However, in a strange twist of fate, the duo has decided to remain in the heavyweight division at Fonda and Albany-Saratoga Speedways this season.

They will, however race a Sportsman, on Sunday’s though, splitting time between the Devil’s Bowl Speedway and the Glen Ridge Motorsports Park. They will also hit some GRIT Series events along the way.

On Wednesday, I spoke exclusively with Spraker about the decision.

“I sold the Big Block engine fairly quick,” he said. “However, my Small Block package had a lot of tire kickers but nothing solid. Instead of letting good power go to waste, we have decided to race the Modified division at both Fonda and Albany-Saratoga.”

Back in March, Spraker told me that Rocky wanted to race more and that figured that running a Sportsman was the way to go. but after some thought and having the power plants sitting on a pallet, Jake had a change of heart.

“We’re going after it at Fonda and hope to score a few Modified wins at Albany-Saratoga along the way,” he said. “I feel we have the best of the best so why not go all in.”

Jake’s resume of drivers speaks for itself and Rocky Warner ‘s win list in the Sportsman ranks is among that of hall of fame drivers. This team will surely be a contender no matter what division or track they show up at.
