Sportsman To Be DIRTcar Sanctioned At Humberstone Speedway For 2021 Season
Story By: STEVE PETTY / HUMBERSTONE SPEEDWAY – PORT COLBORNE, ONT – Humberstone Speedway and DIRTcar Northeast have reached an agreement that the open-wheeled Sportsman division will be running under the DIRTcar banner for the 2021 season.
In conversations with Terry (Vince), he understood the importance of keeping the Sportsman DIRTcar Sanctioned,” says DIRTcar Northeast Director Dean Reynolds. “He saw the value of the sanction and the benefits that came with it when it comes to Home Track bonus points, the Hoosier Racing Tire Weekly Championship points, the booking of a Western Region DIRTcar Sportsman Region Series event along with the marketing and public relations resources that we also can provide his track,” Reynolds continued.
“Being an engine builder himself, he also understood how our sealing and verification process works in detail and saw the benefit of that as far as keeping all sportsman cars under the same program,” Reynolds explained. “I’m happy Terry and Humberstone is aboard, it gives the area another sanctioned track in the area for Sportsman and on a stand-alone night as well,” Reynolds said.
“The decision was to benefit both the racers and the speedway,” comments Humberstone Speedway owner/promoter, Terry Vince.
The DIRTcar Sportsman will host a Super DIRTcar Series Western Region event on September 5, paying $1,500 to win. That night will also feature the UMP-style Modifieds, plus Late Models, Street Stocks, and Mini Stocks as part of the Labour Day Shootout.
Drivers in the DIRTcar Sportsman division will be going after the Hoosier Racing Tire Weekly Championship.
Each drivers’ top-16 finishes in DIRTcar sanctioned features are calculated for points. In a DIRTcar release, “while DIRTcar sanctioned weekly racing is the focus of the championship, it is noted that all Series races in all divisions also count towards drivers’ top-16 finishes as well. This creates an inviting environment for drivers to race for track championships but also travel to other DIRTcar events when possible.”
With the Sportsman being under the DIRTcar banner, the Humberstone engine sealing program will only be legal for the Street Stock division.
Humberstone Speedway is tentatively opening the gates for the first time in 2021 on Sunday, May 23rd with an Open House along with a test & tune session. The season opener will take place the following week, Sunday, May 30 with Crate Sprint Cars, DIRTcar Sportsman, Late Models, Street Stocks, and Mini Stocks on the racing card.
