RPW Column: Demetrios Drellos Returning To ‘The Great Race Place’ In ’21 With A “Monster” Ride

Column By: MIKE WARREN / RPW – QUEENSBURY, NY – Super DIRTcar Series campaigner Demetrios Drellos is best known throughout the Northeast as the driver of his family-owned number 111 machine. However, when promoter Lyle DeVore opens the doors to the Albany-Saratoga Speedway in April, Drellos will be there, but behind the wheel of a different car.

The Queensbury, NY native will be teaming up with long-time car owner Ed Monger, owner of Magsarus Ignitions, this season, driving the number 93 machine. The car was most recently piloted by Danny Varin.

Drellos says this new ride came together through word of mouth, as he reached out to Monger about the opportunity. This new partnership also means Drellos is returning to his former home track as a full-time driver.

For the first time in a few years, Demetrios will be competing for the Malta track title. He says he’s excited about the opportunity, and thinks that pairing with Monger will make the team a threat right away.

“I feel that with this opportunity Ed has given me, we have a true chance at doing very well in the points at Malta,” Drellos said. “He has great equipment and I’m very fortunate I’ll get to drive for him. I’m very thankful for the opportunity.”

Monger will also be making a change for the 2021 season. As Andy’s reported on its Facebook page Thursday, the car owner picked up his first ever Bicknell chassis. In the past, he’s had Troyers, PMC’s, DKM’s and HigFab’s.

As you may expect, Friday won’t be the only night you can see the young gun Drellos racing. He plans on returning to the Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Saturday nights with his family’s 111. This is a track where he’s the defending champion in the Sportsman Modified division.

Fans will also get to see him and his 111 team as part of the Super DIRTcar Series in 2021.

If that wasn’t enough, while getting behind the wheel of a Modified is exciting, and signing to drive with a new team can be a feather in your cap, Drellos has more to be excited about. He and his wife are expecting their first child in February.

Between racing and the new addition to the family, the Demetrios Drellos is almost certain to have a 2021 he’ll remember forever.
