RPW Column: A Busy 2021 Racing Season On Tap For The Pat Hedges Race Team
Column By: MIKE TRAVERSE / RPW – PORT JERVIS, NY – The name Hedges has long been associated with racing in the OCFS/Accord area. Brothers Edgar, Danny and Pat Hedges all spent many years racing in the Street Stock Division at OCFS. As recently as the 2020 Eastern States Weekend, Danny was in competition.
It will be a busy 2021 for what Pat calls HIC Racing. In addition to Pat and his daughter Olivia racing, Pat’s other young children, daughter Jazmyn and son Patrick will be racing. Mark Idsall also races with the team. And the team is once again fielding a street stock which will be driven by Thomas Cilurso.
Cilurso last raced in 2019, finishing just out of the top 10 in points at the Bethel Motor Speedway. The plan for 2020 is to race Accord, OCFS and Bethel.
Pat, Mark, Oliva, Jazmyn and Patrick will all be competing at various division at the Snydersville Raceway in Pennsylvania.
Idsall and Hedges will both race in the Sr. Champ division. Pat had a points finish of 11th this past season.
Olivia (11) and Jazmyn (9) will be racing in the Jr. Champ division. Olivia ran regularly in the division in 2020 and finished 6th in points.
Patrick (6) will be racing in what is called the Purple Plate Jr. Champ division.
In addition to racing at Snydersville, the team is looking at competing in some races at the Victory Speedway track that will be debuting at OCFS in 2021.
Olivia and Jazmyn will also be doing racing of a different sort in 2021. Plans are for them to compete in the famous Port Jervis Soap Box Derby. Olivia will be racing a soap box car for Lisa VanInwegen and Jazmyn will be racing in a car for her Dad.
It sounds like a lot to keep coordinate, but Pat has it under control.
“It’s what we love to do as a family. We will give it our best at every event we attend.”
