RPW Column: Anthony Perrego Doubles Up Saturday Evening At Orange County Fair Speedway

RPW Column By: MIKE TRAVERSE / RPW – MIDDLETOWN, NY – Now that the Orange County Fair Speedway season has gotten started, it did not take long for Anthony Perrego to find his way back to Victory Lane.

Perrego took the wins in both the Big Block Modifieds and 358 Small Block Modifieds on a cool and breezy June Saturday Night.

In the second consecutive dandy of a feature event, the 11th starting Perrego took the lead from Jimmy Horton and held off a charging Matt Sheppard by a little over a second. Michael Storms, Tyler Dippel and Billy VanInwegen completed the top 5 with Mike Mahaney, Tommy Meier, Jerry Higbie, Tyler Boniface and Jimmy Spellmon taking spots 6-10.

In the first 2020 OCFS 358 Small Block Modified Feature, 2nd starting Perrego took the lead from Mahaney on the 2nd lap and led the rest of the way to take the victory over Dippel with Storms 3rd, Allison Ricci 4th and Gary Edwards Jr. 5th. Finishing in spots 6 through 9 were Bobby Flood, Dillon Steuer, Danny Creeden, and Joe Bonetti. Early leader Mahaney suffered a flat right rear tire on lap 3, but was able pit and recover to finish 10th.

The 358 race was red flagged on lap 18 with a 7 car crash that ended up with the car of Ray Hall Jr. flipped over on it’s side and the car of Ryan Macartney with heavy front end damage. No injuries were reported.

In the Street Stock division, Rob Taylor jumped out to an early lead with 2019 OCFS Street Stock Champion Bob Sleight Jr. racing up into second. They ran nose to tail for quite a few laps until Sleight made the pass and proceeded to check out, taking the opening Street Stock feature for 2020. Taylor, Walt Henry, Nick Giardini and Charlie Donald rounded out the top 5.

OCFS returns to action on June 20th with a two division show featuring the Big Block Modifieds and the Sportsman divisions.
