Busy Week Ahead As Big Diamond Speedway Roars To Life, Finally, For 2020 Season
Story By: KENNETH BRUCE / BIG DIAMOND SPEEDWAY – MINERSVILLE, PA – As the 2020 season starts to get underway, it will be a quick start this upcoming week for the Big Diamond Speedway.
On Friday night June 12th it will be opening night presented by Fire Management of Pennsylvania. The Insigner Performance 358 Modifieds will headline the night with a 30-lap, $4000 to win main event. Craig Von Dohren was the winner of the 2019 opener and will be on-hand to try and repeat last year’s feat along with defending his 2019 track title.
The USS Achey Open Sportsman will also compete for some extra cash with their 20-lap feature paying $1000 to the winner. Please note that the Crate 602 Sportsman are allowed to compete in this race. Completing the nights racing card will be the Red White and Blues Autos Roadrunners and the Heller Gas Street Stocks.
All divisions will draw for the starting spots. Drivers must have a new W-9 form filled out to draw. The W-9 form can be found on the Big Diamond website.
Pit and spectator gates will open on Friday at 5:00pm with warmups taking the track at 7:15pm. *Rain date for Friday’s show is Sunday June 14th.
Reserved seating and reserved pit parking are in effect.
Pit admission for the opener is $30 with a 2020 pit license. Non-licensed pit admission is $40.
Admission for Friday is $20, kids 11-12 will be $10. Kids 10 and under are free. Active military with a valid ID is free. *Please have exact change on hand if possible.
We urge everyone to wear a mask, social distance and follow the CDC guidelines.
Once we get the opener completed, next up will be the rescheduled and always anticipated annual “Anthracite Assault”.
The cars and stars of the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series Fueled by Sunoco will be taking the track after being postponed from June 2nd due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Big Diamond Speedway is the only track that hosts a duel series event which ensures the best of the best will all be there. This will be race number three for the Velocita-USA South Region and race number one for the Halmar International North Region. Previous Anthracite Assault winners Rick Laubach (2015), Ryan Watt (2016), Ryan Godown (2017) & Matt Sheppard (2019) will all be on hand to try and become the first repeat winner of the race ( the 2018 race was rained out twice). That will be a monumental task to accomplish as the best in the business will all be in attendance to try and add their name to the record book.
