Big Diamond Speedway Finally Gets Green Light; Opener Set For Friday June 12th

Story By: BIG DIAMOND SPEEDWAY – MINERSVILLE, PA – After an extended off-season due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, the Big Diamond Speedway is ready to move forward and get the 2020 season underway. On Friday, June 12th, the engines will roar to life as the Schuylkill County dirt oval returns to action with their opener presented by Fire Management of PA.

Promoters Jake and Jasmine Smulley are ready to open the gates to the teams and more importantly the fans as the much-anticipated season gets underway.

The mighty Insigner Performance 358 modifieds will headline the night with a 30-lap feature paying $4000 to the winner. Last year’s track champion and Coalcracker 72 winner Craig Von Dohren will be back to defend his title along with former track champions Duane Howard, Billy Pauch Jr, Rick Laubach and Jeff Strunk. Big Diamond Speedway always presents a stellar field of 358 modifieds and this year will be no exception. Look for Mike Gular to join the fold as a track regular in the Terry Fanascht No. 2 along with last year’s Sportsman champion Doug Hendricks who will moving up to the 358 division as well.

The USS Achey open Sportsman will be in action at the opener as they will race in a 20-lap main event paying $1000 to the winner. With last year’s champion Hendricks moving up to the modifieds, this will leave the open sportsman wide open looking for the next big winner to step up and take the crown. *The Crate 602 division will be allowed to compete in this event.

Completing the opening night roster will be the Red, White & Blue Auto Roadrunner division along with the Heller Gas Street Stock division. Both the Roadrunner and Street Stocks will run 20-lap feature events.

Opening night notes: All divisions will be full points. All Divisions will be an open draw.

Gates will open at 5:00pm with warmups getting underway at 7:15pm. Racing will begin at 7:45pm

Pit admission is $30 with a 2020 pit license and $40 for non-members.

Grandstand admission is $20, Kids 11-12 are $10, kids 10 and under are free. Active military are free with a valid ID. All fans are encouraged to have exact change for all admissions.

Fans are also encouraged to wear a mask, social distance and follow CDC guidelines.

Reserved seating and reserved pit parking will be in effect.

All drivers must fill a new W-9 form for the 2020 season in order to draw. You can find the W-9 form on the Big Diamond Speedway website.
