RPW Column: Longtime OCFS Street Stock Campaigner Emerson Cargain Sr. Retires From Racing
RPW Column By: MIKE TRAVERSE / RPW – MAHOPAC, NY – One of the most successful Street Stock racers at OCFS and a fine gentleman has retired from racing. Emerson Cargain Sr. decided recently that he has driven his final race.
Emerson, along with his wife Janet Swart-Cargain and son Emerson Jr. have been fixtures at OCFS and many area tracks for many years. Emerson has been one of the most successful racers in OCFS Street Stock history. His 43 wins rank second only to Al D’Antonio’s 48 in the OCFS Street Stock category. He has collected 4 championships during his 35+ year racing career. He was also a co-champion in the Crane Golf Series in 2016.
Emerson has always been great with the fans. He has been especially kind to this writer’s son when he gave him a very nice diecast of his favorite Nascar driver, a gift that young man treasures.
The Street Stock division at OCFS is a very tight knit group, especially the group of drivers from the Mahopac area where Emerson and Janet live. He has been so well liked and very popular with the fans. With Emerson not racing, there is going to be a huge void. He will be missed by the fans and his fellow competitors.
On behalf of Race Pro Weekly, we wish Emerson and Janet good health and hopefully we’ll still see you around the racetracks. It’s truly been a pleasure to watch you race and get to know you over the years.
