Story By: NORTH FLORIDA SPEEDWAY – LAKE CITY, FL – Lockport, New York’s Andrew Smith brought his Reservior Bar / Penn Credit / Dan Smith Fab #1 across the checkers first in the second night of Winter Nationals action at North Florida Speedway Saturday night.
A somber Smith dedicated the win to his Grandfather and Grandmother in victory lane.
” This track is small but the speed is fast and we needed to run a gear that we use on the big tracks but it worked.” exclaimed Andrew. “I think we’re on to something and expect a good 2020 season. It’s got me puzzled a little.”
Young Cory Cormier #20 of Middletown , N.Y. settled in to second with his Interstate Batteries /Comfort Experts /A -Plus Sewer Service / Old Town Barns /American Remodelingllc / Bilstein Shocks / Swift Coils and had another great finish for the three night show.
Cormier tried challenging Smith in the early laps but Smith made a brake adjustment and opened up a eight car advantage towards the end.
!2 year old Derrick McGrew Jr. #26 of Ballston Spa , New York made the move of the night after coming from the rear after a small skirmish sent him to the back and made a drive towards the front to finish third.
Derrick was racing with a heavy heart after losing his grandfather yesterday. Probably one of the most personable young kids you would want to meet our prayers are with you and your family.
In C / Class Late Model Action Arthur Conquest #78 won the first win of 2020 and bested Ocala , Florida’s Sean Babcock #02 who finished second and Donnie Gray Jr. #19 came home third.

Gainey was challenged by several drivers in the early stages but when the checker flew he had things in control. Hunter Sweet finished third. For the early stages it appeared Jupiter , Florida’s Clay Harris #6H would drive to victory as he passed Gainey and they raced a battle until Harris broke with engine woes in turn 4.
Tomorrow is the finale for the Winter Nationals with racing starting at 4 P.M. and the field of 602 Crate Sportsman are expected to grow as we will be the only track racing them.
