RPW Exclusive: Larry Wight Named RPW NYSSCA Performer Of The Year For 2018

Column By: MIKE WARREN / RPW – ALBANY, NY – Central New York modified campaigner “Lightning” Larry White has been named the 2018 Race Pro Weekly NYSSCA Performer Of The Year.

In a season that did not have anyone stand out like some of our winners in the past, the group at Race Pro Weekly determined this year would go to who won the most “Performer Of The Week” awards throughout the year on its online show.

Only two drivers were able to stake that claim this season, Wight, and young Modified campaigner Demetrios Drellos from Queensbury, NY.

Drellos secured his two weekly awards with a win in the C.J. Richards Memorial as part of the King Of Dirt Series at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway, and his first career triumph at the Fonda Speedway.

Wight’s claim to fame for both of his awards included sweeping the ESS and Small Block Modified feature events in exciting fashion late in the season at the Fulton Speedway and about a month later when he took home the win at Oswego during Super DIRT Week in the Billy Whitaker Cars 200.

When determining between the two, it was simple after comparing the seasons each driver had…especially when adding in Wight’s DIRTcar 358-Modified championship at Fulton.

Wight can now add RPW NYSSCA “Performer of the Year’ to the list of accolades accolades he won for 2018.
