Weedsport Announces Schedule Changes To Kartway Schedule

Story By: DAN KAPUSCINSKI / WEEDSPORT SPEEDWAY – WEEDSPORT, NY – Due to the addition of the Renegades and Outlaws Tour concert to the Weedsport Speedway schedule on Saturday, June 22 as well as the addition of a Super DIRTcar Series Modified event at Utica-Rome Speedway on Sunday, August 18, two Weedsport Kartway date changes have been made.

The Kartway’s ‘Pencils Down Showdown’, originally scheduled for Sunday, June 23, has been moved to Sunday, July 7 making for an action-packed weekend in conjunction with Can-Am Speedway’s ‘Firecracker 50’ karting event on Saturday, July 6.

With the date change Weedsport Kartway has added a $500 to win PRO Clone 360 event to the day’s schedule on July 7 along with the originally planned $250 to win PRO Blue Clone main and all ‘Super Six’ point events.

“After a lot of thought, we decided running the concert and the kart event in back-to-back days just wouldn’t be conducive to putting on a great program for all involved,” said Weedsport Speedway promoter, Jimmy Phelps. “Fortunately, we were able to work closely with Tyler Bartlett at Can-Am Speedway and work together on making the weekend as big as it can be for both venues. At the same time, this move also gets us away from the Burris Money Series event in Pennsylvania on June 23, as we know a lot of competitors enjoy running those races as well.”

The Kartway’s $1,000 to win PRO Clone 360 event on Sunday, May 26 will now serve as a qualifying race for Can-Am Speedway’s ‘Firecracker 50.’ The winner of the PRO Clone 360 race on Heroes Remembered Weekend at Weedsport will start no worse than 7th in the $2,000 to win Can-Am event on July 6.

In turn, the winner of Can-Am’s ‘Firecracker 50’ will start no worse than 7th in Weedsport’s Octoberfest II finale to be held on Sunday, September 29.

The other date change on the schedule will see the Kartway’s ‘Kart Cup’, originally scheduled for Sunday, August 18, moved to the following weekend on Sunday, August 25. The event will follow the same scheduled format.

With this change, there are currently no scheduled rain dates.

The overall five-race schedule will feature point events for the Kartway’s ‘Super Six’ divisions including Jr. Red Clone, Jr. Purple Clone, Jr. Blue Clone, Clone Light, Clone Heavy and Clone Super Heavy.

Race dates for 2019 are now Sunday, May 26, Sunday, July 7, Saturday, July 27, Sunday, August 25 and Octoberfest II from on September 28-29.

The Kartway’s season opener on Sunday, May 26 will be part of Heroes Remembered Weekend as the Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modifieds will contend in the Heroes Remembered 100 on Monday, May 27 along with the DIRTcar Sportsman.

The Kartway’s portion of the weekend features ‘Super Six’ point races along with a $1,000 to win PRO Clone 360 event, that now awards a guaranteed starting spot of 7th in the Can-Am Speedway ‘Firecracker 50.’

The Kartway re-opens in July with the Pencils Down Showdown on Sunday, July 7, celebrating the end of the school year.

‘Super Six’ point events will highlight the day of racing in conjunction with a $250 to win PRO Blue Clone race and a $500 to win Clone Heavy event.

A special Saturday event will take place on July 27 as the Kartway joins the Speedway for Hall of Fame Weekend with the DIRTcar All-Star Shootout.

‘Super Six’ point racing will again be part of the day alongside a $500 to win PRO Clone Super Heavy main. The event will also feature the DIRTcar All-Star Shootout pitting DIRTcar Modified and Sportsman competitors against each other.

The next evening Weedsport Speedway will see the Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modified Hall of Fame 100 along with the DIRTcar Sportsman and Classics on DIRT.

The Kartway’s final event of Summer will be the Weedsport Kart Cup on Sunday, August 25.

‘Super Six’ point racing will continue during Kart Cup, with the day’s highlight being the Kart Cup PRO Clone 360 Twin 20’s.

Each PRO Clone 360 main will pay $500 to win with a Kart Cup bonus of another $500 going to the driver with the best overall finish.

Octoberfest II will include two days of action beginning on Saturday, September 28 and ending on Sunday, September 29. A full listing of details will be announced in the near future.

All five Weedsport Kartway events will count toward overall track championships with a season ending point fund to be paid for point divisions. Leather jackets will be awarded to track champions. A Weedsport Kartway membership will be required to race for points.

Burris 33a tires will be mandatory for the season with engine rules following AKRA guidelines. More specific details to be announced soon.
