Sportsman In The Limelight This Saturday At Grandview Speedway

Story By: ERNIE SAXTON / GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY – BECHTELSVILLE, PA – The NASCAR Sportsman racers will be in the limelight on Saturday, June 23rd when the Summer Splash 40 is presented with $1,500 up for grabs in the 40-lap feature.

Winner of two features this season Kyle Lilick has to be considered a strong threat to win the biggest event of the season for the Sportsman. However he will have plenty of competition in the form of young Louden Reimert, Craig Whitmoyer, Brian Hirthler, Brad Grim, Brad Brightbill and a host of other regulars plus some expected visitors looking to grab the big prize. Joining the Sportsman will be the T.P.Trailers NASCAR 358 Modifieds along with the popular Late Model stocks.

Special on Summer Splash Night and sure to be popular with fans and racers who are pet lovers is the Safety Net Sanctuary Raffle Fundraiser that will be a huge part of the night. The care forever home for animals located on 11 acres in Fleetwood, PA gives a home to dogs, cats and farm animals. No animals are euthanized. Fans are invited to bring dog and cat food to be placed in special containers and take part in the raffle that will have winners walking off with gift baskets, race team items and area business gift certificates. Adult admission for this special night of racing is $20 for adults, $5 for youngsters 6 thru 11 and free admission for kids under 6. Pit admission is $30 with a NASCAR license required. Free parking is available on the speedway grounds.

Spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m. while racing starts at 7:30 p.m.

And on Sunday, June 24, 1 p.m. the Outlaw Enduros and Blast from the Past Vintage Racers will present another exciting doubleheader show.

In the season long battle for the championships in the three divisions that race weekly at Grandview Mike Gular leads the T.P.Trailers NASCAR 358 Modifieds with 1393 points followed by defending champion Craig Von Dohren at 1379. Third is Brett Kressley with 1373 followed by Jeff Strunk at 1370 and Duane Howard with 1272. The top five are separated by 121 points making for some very close competition for the lucrative NASCAR title.

In the Sportsman Brad Grim continues to be on top with 1063 counters followed by Louden Reimert with 1062 and Brad Brightbill at 1018. And in Late Models Danny Snyder is leading with 905 points. Lou Egrie is second with 829 and Steve Todorow holds third 806. Complete standings are shown at the bottom of this story.

Coming up on Saturday, June 30th is the annual Bechtelsville Car Wash sponsored night which will feature four divisions of racing competition. Included in the night of action will be the T.P.Trailers 358 Modifieds, Sportsman, the visiting Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series racer and the Blast from the Past Vintage racers. Adult admission will be $18 while youngsters under 12 will be admitted free.
