Accord Modified Main Event Friday Night Won By Andy Bachetti

Story By: STEVE PADOS / ACCORD SPEEDWAY – ACCORD, NY – Accord Speedway Promoters Gary and Donna Palmer continued to be blessed with great weather on Friday evening and the racing has been beyond spectacular with both track regulars and newcomers enjoying the spoils of victory in the WRWD Radio Victory Lane.

The Palmer Family offered a six division show on Friday evening as they put their tenth show in the Accord history books and with a show that went off like clockwork. The weather cooperated fully and the Scorching summer heat did not stop a great crowd from coming out to help usher in the start of the holiday period. The enthusuastic crowd came out to the speedway to enjoy an evening of speed, delicious chicken BBQ and a light show extravaganza fireworks show that topped off a fabulous night sponsored by the good folks at Emmanuel’s Marketplace. “The Wild Child” Andy Bachetti exploded from his tenth starting place and utilized every inch of the landscape to take over the lead on lap-13 to go on and record his second Insinger Fuel Modified win of the season at the Accord facility. “The Junior Rock” Matt Shultz has had some tough outings early in the year but this night belonged to him as he held a very determined Tyler Johnston to capture his first win of the season in the Arkel Motors Sportsman main event. Emerson Cargain dialed in the top of the speedway rolled to his fourth win of the season in the Upstate Auto Pure Stock feature attraction. “The Travelin Man” Mick D’Agostino continued his winning ways by capturing his fourth win of the season in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint Car feature. Charles Loiodice continued to have the hot ticket and he sped to his third win win of the season in the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman feature. The Emmanuel’s Marketplace Fireball 4-Cylinder feature was captured by Richard Smith as he went wire to wire for his second win of the season.

A pair of Halmar International hot rods brought the field down for the start of the thirty lap Insinger Fuels 30-lap headliner for the Modifieds. “The Twister” Tyler Boniface out-gunned Allison Ricci off of turn two and grabbed the lead with Ricci following. A two car skirmish put last week’s winner Kenny Ferrier and Mark Pullen on the sidelines. On the restart it would be Boniface showing the hot hand with Allison and Rich Ricci III battling behind him along with Richard Smith. The racing was fast and intense as the players began to make advances to the front. Bachetti led the group forward and Jerry Higbie, Mike Ricci and Anthony Perrego began to tip the scales in their favor. Bachetti, however, was relentless as he moved from lane to lane moving forward and utilized the cushion and then invented a new cushion as he top sided his way past Boniface on lap-13 to assume command of the lead.

Once in front, Bachetti built up a big lead and then was smooth in traffic as he could see on the scoreboard Higbie and Perrego were coming on strong. The night belonged to Bachetti as raced under the checkered flga to earn his second Accord Speedway triumph of the season and first win since his return to the speedway. Higbie was a strong second with Perrego third, Mike Ricci doing his ironman work in fourth and Tyler Boniface securing a top five in a great run for him at the speedway. Heading up the second five and a surprise entrant was Tyler Dipple as he began from 14th and finish sixth in a successful return to the speedway. Allison Ricci, Rich Ricci III, Richard Smith and Tommy Johnson completed the top ten.

The Arkel Motors Sportsman event found outside pole sitter Matt Shultz hustling into the lead at the drop of the green flag. Shultz had a fast hot rod and quickly put some daylight between he and Dave Demorest and Anthony Recchio. Shultz was touring the speedway with laps of 13.8 seconds and found the track much to his liking. Things would unravel with five laps to go as Danny Morgiewicz and Kyle Rohner tangled in turn three and Kevin Stevens would connect as well with Stevens and Morgiewicz suffering considerable damage to their mounts. On the restart Shultz took off and making tracks would be Tyler Johnston as he coaxed some extra speed out of his race car and would go to the top of the cushion to put heavy pressure on Shultz all of the way to the checkered flag. Shultz would gain his initial win of the season with Johnston in second, Cole Hentschel third, Anthony Recchio fourth and Nick Plumstead rallying to finish fifth. The second five included Leo Fotopoulos, Kyle Rohner, Dave Demorest and newcomer Troy Arnold.

Jeff Higham would lead the first lap and would then fall prey to Charles Loiodice on lap two and it would be the only move Loiodice would need in racing to his third feature event of the season in the WRWD Radio Rookie Sportsman headliner. Loiodice once again had a great car under him and clocked some times in the 13.896 second mark.. Travis Green hustled hard to earn runner-up honors Jeff Higham, Joe Coppola and John Brown would complete the top five. MIke Travis finished sixth while the remainder of the top ten included Brian Durbin, Michael Corbin, Cole Stangle and Robbie Colbyrn.

In the Upstate Auto Pure Stock event, Emerson Cargain seized the moment as he took control of the point at the start and would move up the raceway as he enjoyed the view and the speed from there and would go on and lead all of the way to gain his fourth feature win of the season. John Hechinger remained close all of he way and made a couple of bids to unseat Cargain but Cargain proved to have just enough pep in his hot rod to get the win. Hechinger, Livy Johnson, Travis Brockner and Steve Williams would complete the top five.

Mick D’Agostino would jump into the lead at the start in the WRWD Radio NEWS Sprint feature. D’Agostino would lead all of the way as he withstood many challenges from Corey Wood early on but Wood spun out as he mounted a challenge bringing out the caution. D’Agsotino. Jordan Lawrence took up the chase but Lawrence would fall short in his attempts and D’Agostino would go on to his fourth win of the season with Lawrence second, Wood third Gary Huston fourth and Mark Connnely fifth.

In the Fireballers feature, Richard Smith grabbed the lead at the start but unlike last week when he met with the unforgiving boiler plate, this week he was all business as he led all of the way to earn his second win of the season. In doing so Smith held off a pair of chargers who kept it very close to the checkered flag as Ryan Heady just nipped current point leader Jerry Kingeter for runner-up honors. Kingeter was third while newcomer Brent Shaddock and Jesse Torrens would complete the top five. Following them would be Brandon Conklin, newcomer Jeff Tubbs, Marisol Torrens, Ed King and another newcomer James Conklin.

The skies went dark after the third feature and the experts at Santore’s Famous Fireworks took over and lit up the Accord skies as only they can achieve.
