Forecast By: REBECCA LADD / RPW – METEOROLOGIST – Here is the upcoming forecast for this weekend near Upstate New York, so you can plan accordingly.
Friday:
Building high pressure from the west will keep us mild, dry, and with comfortably low humidity into Friday. But, I can’t completely rule out very isolated showers for southwest Pennsylvania Friday afternoon/evening . The high pressure will move off the Coast on Friday. The southwest flow will push warm and humid air into the region.
Our southwesterly wind flow will continue into Saturday allowing for a very warm and muggy day.
Memorial Day Weekend:
A weak upper level disturbance will be approaching from the west, At the same time a backdoor cool front out of Canada will be dropping into northern New York and New England. There could be a few showers or storms near the border Friday night to Saturday morning. Those to the south will see showers and isolated thunderstorms late afternoon/evening. The front will be sitting over Pennsylvania and Middle Atlantic Saturday night, and will continue to settle south into Sunday. The front will stall and pulsate north and south for Sunday into Monday.
Sunday will see more in the way of widespread rain and scattered thunderstorms. But it won’t be a washout There could be hit and miss downpours. Those north of the frontal boundary will be a bit cool. The front will slowly lift back to the north as a warm front for Memorial Day Monday. The front looks to weaken as it lifts northward. Those in the middle Atlantic and central and southern Pennsylvania should see clearing for the afternoon with those to the north will see scattered showers and perhaps isolated thunderstorms.
While Sunday and Monday will be wet, neither day will be a washout.
