Test, Tune & Inspection Day At Merrittville Means New Season Almost Here

Story By: JIM IRVINE / MERRITTVILLE SPEEDWAY – THOROLD, ONT – When it comes to Saturday April 14th’s Test and Tune Session at Merrittville – the biggest question is … who is ready for it more?

Race Fans and Race Teams alike have both suffered from a cold, hard winter and it’s time for spring!

“We were able to complete the Turning Point School of Driving this past weekend,” said Merrittville’s Don Spiece, “although the grounds around it may have not been in the best condition … I think the race track held up real good … if nothing else – the sounds of racing engines at speed and smell of race fuel in the air had everyone anticipating the start of another year!”

For the Bobcat of Hamilton Weekly Racing Series Teams – this coming Saturday is Spring Training and the pre-season all wrapped up in a one day session to test out the new car and for some – a new division.

Drivers representing the Hoosier Stocks, Vansickle Pet Valu and Groomingdale’s Modified Lites and the new Dave’s Auto and Speed Centre V6 Division will be looking for all important seat time in preparation for the 67th Season Opener presented by Loop Paint – Saturday April 28th.

Saturday April 21st’s Semenuk’s Esso Spring Sizzler will see the S&W Service Centre 358 Modifieds, David Chevrolet Sportsman and Central Fabrication 4 Cylinders in action in addition to the Season Opener for the Patriot Sprint Tour. Drivers from each of those divisions will be on track at Practice shaking down their cars for the following week.

While the evening session April 14th is intended for the Thorold facility’s BOHWRS Divisions – drivers from other classes are expected including local Sprint Car Teams looking to prepare for visits of the Action Sprint Tour and Southern Ontario Sprints throughout the season.

Race Teams should make note that the Pit Gates will open at 12 PM April 14th for Inspection with the first Test and Tune Session scheduled for 5:00 PM. Cars will not be allowed on the track until they are inspected.

Grandstand Admission is free.
