Sprints & Mods Provide Potent 1-2 Punch For Outlaw Speedway’s Spring Nationals
Story By: KENNY SHUPP / OUTLAW SPEEDWAY – DUNDEE, NY – With Mother Nature reluctantly loosening her grip on the great northeast and the car show scene now all but a memory, race fans, drivers and crews can turn their undivided attention to what matters the most; Race Action on the Speedway!
The Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, NY will be one of the first tracks in the upstate New York region to open their gates for full race action when they welcome the ESS Lucas Oil and the A Verdi Storage Patriot 360 Sprints to the Yates County oval to help kick off the 2018 season. With virtually no other tracks in the northeast running the 360 Sprints on that particular night the track could very well see a record turnout of the wonderful winded things. In addition the Friendly CDJR Big Block/Small Block Modifieds are also on the 6 card event and like the Sprints the Mod Squad too could see big numbers in car counts as there are no conflicting tracks in operation within a hundred miles or more on April 20, 2018.
“In talking with the representatives of ESS and the Patriot Sprint Tour 360 sprint organizations all indications point to a huge turnout of sprints, stated Outlaw Speedway owner, Tyler Siri. This will be the first event of the season for most teams unless they went south earlier this year, so the drivers and crews are all eager to get going. Likewise, I’ve been receiving numerous calls from Modified Teams that have stated they will be making the tow to Dundee for the opener. Like the 360 Sprints the Modifieds are also chopping at the bit to get some race action.”
In preparation for what could very well be one of the biggest opening nights at Outlaw Speedway in recent memory the track preparation crew has been hard at work getting the 4/10 of a mile clay oval ready for competition. According to Siri, “The abnormally cold and snowy March and early April weather that we received in this area really has not hurt us a bit. My staff has been working overtime getting the place ready and barring any unforeseen harsh weather close to the April 20 race date we are set to go with the Spring Nationals. The surface and facility were put away very nicely last fall and we’re ready to race. This is our 3rd Annual and it has all the makings of our biggest yet!”
With the ESS Lucas Oil and A. Verdi Storage Patriot 360 Sprints as well the Friendly CDJR Modifieds both on the schedule it will provide a definite one-two knockout punch for eager race fans as they can get their fix of both open wheel sprints and northeast modifieds all on the same night.
With the anticipation of large car counts the pit gates will open on Friday, April 20, 2018 at 3:00 pm with the grandstand seating area opening at 4:30 pm. Hot laps will begin at 6:00 with the first green flag of the night waving at 7:00 pm. If needed, a rain date has been set for the following day, April 21, 2018.
Pit Admission is set at $40. Grandstand costs are Adults $22 and Seniors $20. Kids 12 and under are free
Sprints and Modifieds will both race for $3,000 to win. The always popular and highly competitive GRIT Sportsman will pay $1,500 to the winner. Both the Street Stocks and Decker Farmers Insurance IMCA Fastshaft will be on the card and race for $1,000 to win and the victorious driver in the 4 Cylinder Outlaw Style will receive a cool $600.
