Patriot Sprint ‘Spring Sizzler’ Part Of Dirts Event At Merrittville For 2018

Story By: JIM IRVINE / MERRITTVILLE SPEEDWAY – THOROLD, ONT – Merrittville Speedway Race Fans and Race Teams alike have been waiting since fall for the Semenuk’s Esso Spring Sizzler and the wait is over. The 2018 Season kicks off Saturday April 21st.

The first Bobcat of Hamilton Weekly Racing Series Event will feature the Patriot Sprint Tour in addition to the S& W Service Centre 358 Modifieds, the David Chevrolet Sportsman and the Central Fabricating & Welding 4 Cylinder Divisions.

“Traditionally Semenuk’s Esso Night has meant that the points races are in the books for another year … but it’s cool that they will host the Championship Chase kick off for several of our divisions this year as well,” reveals (Merrittville Speedway Owner) Don Spiece, “Peter, Ed and the family have enjoyed a long history of involvement in our events and with several race teams … this year they will enjoy seeing how the season starts and how it ends.”

Brewerton NY’s Jason Barney has had a stranglehold on the Patriot Sprint Tour Canadian Tour Opener – winning the last three years at the Thorold DIRTcar sanctioned facility. In the 2017 Point Standings, Dylan Westbrook of Scotland Ontario (who won last year’s Avondale Food Stores Sprint Car A Main) edged Jared Zimbardi by just 6 points with Cory Turner, Mitch Brown and Jake Brown rounding out the Top 5.

In the PST American Tour 2017 Standings, Champion Zimbardi of Bradford, PA was followed by Steve Collins, Kyle Drum, Jordan Thomas and Derek Jonathan.

Ransomville NY’s Ryan Susice would surely like to start 2018 the way he finished 2017 – in Victory Lane after winning September 9th’s Sprint Car A Main.
