Skylar Gee Charges With ASCS At Devil’s Bowl Spring Nationals

Story By: BRYAN HULBERT / SKYLAR GEE RACING – MESQUITE, TX – Skylar Gee’s start to the 2018 season with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com at the 45th Devil’s Bowl Spring Nationals didn’t take long to find speed as the Strongs Crane Sales and Repair No. 99 ended the evening with a charge from 18th to fourth.

“The car was good in the Heat, but we just couldn’t seem to move anywhere,” commented Gee on the start of his night. “We made a few changes for the B-Main and it kept getting better so we didn’t change much for the feature.”

Running from fourth to second in the B-Feature, Skylar made every lap count with each revolution bringing him closer to the front of the field.

“Bryan [Sundby] said to just keep working at it and keep digging and it’ll come in, and sure enough, around Lap 18 the car just came in and kept getting better and better. Pretty soon we were right there in the mix. I just wish we had been able to start near the front.”

One of the first drivers to really find the center groove coming in, Skylar explained that he found the line while racing with Chris Martin.

“When I was trying to get in front of the No. 44, I tried to slide him a few times and I wasn’t having to go all the way to the curb to keep pace. The track was starting to take a little rubber at the entrance of turn one, and the exit of turn four so I just starting cheating the corners every lap and found it.”

The night’s CP-Carrillo Hard Charger of the Night, it was a great way to start the season and cap off his 19th Birthday.
“It was a great result and everything worked great with the new team.”

While the weather will dictate Skylar’s next race, the current plan is to make his way to 81-Speedway for the Air Capital Shootout with NCRA on March 30 and 31.
