Lancaster Speedway Adds Midwest Compact Series Date To 2018 Schedule
Story By: DAVE BUCHANAN / LANCASTER SPEEDWAY – LANCASTER, NY – Lancaster National Speedway has added the Midwest Compact Touring Series (MCTS), a traveling 4-Cylinder series, to its 2018 schedule as part of the X-Press Signs Stock Car Series event on Saturday, August 11.
The Midwest Compact Touring Series is mostly comprised of teams from Ohio, Pennsylvania and Michigan that compete in races across nine different states. The MCTS schedule is broken into three geographical regions with Lancaster’s race falling into the East region, however, the August 11 event at LNS will be the only MCTS race scheduled that day to allow teams from across the entire series to compete.
Adding even more anticipation to the event is the fact that the race will be run on LNS’s “Big Track” (½-mile oval) instead of the usual “Inner Oval” normally utilized by the Roaming Buffalo 4-Cylinder Division. Lancaster’s own 4-Cylinder division teams will be allowed to participate, as long as they conform to the MCTS’s car and safety rules.
Several Lancaster National Speedway 4-Cylinder drivers competed in the MCTS event at Lake Erie Speedway last season with Dave Brunka and Dave Milbrand, Jr. both finishing inside the top ten. LNS Pit Steward Jamie Woods finished seventh in that race as well.
Fans attending the August 11 show will now be treated to the Roaming Buffalo 4-Cylinders, Sunoco Sportsman, Midwest Compact Touring Series plus a 50-lap Advance Auto Parts Street Stock feature.
“We have been in touch with the MCTS for awhile now and we were finally able to put together an agreement for them to join us,” said Tim Packman, Track President. “Our own Roaming Buffalo 4-Cylinders have been asking to run the big track for years and here is their chance to do so, as long as they conform to the MCTS rules and safety requirements.
“From a track standpoint, we have an opportunity to bring in something new for our fans and give the 4-Cylinders a chance to run two races in one night – on two different tracks. We will have the Sunoco Sportsman and still feature our exciting Advance Auto Parts Street Stocks as the marquee event with their long-distance race that night.”
During the off-season, LNS officials talked with various other series wanting to take part in the 2018 season. Dates lined up with the MCTS and then the safety requirements and rules were discussed.
“When we first started talking to our own teams, they were quick to say they would like to come up to the Buffalo area and run at Lancaster Speedway,” said Andy Jach, MCTS Promoter. “Once we found a date that would work for all us, the safety aspect of our cars was the first thing we discussed with us racing on the big track.
“We had a good showing of Lancaster and WNY 4-Cylinders when we ran at Lake Erie last year. We’re hoping for that same response when we come to Lancaster for the first time in August.”
Adult admission for the August 11 event will be $15. This is a slight $2 increase from a regular Saturday program with the added value of the MCTS race and the extended Street Stock feature.
Any 4-Cylinder teams interested in running the MCTS event on August 11 should review the safety rules located on their website (http://www.midwestcompacts.com/rules.html).
