Big Game Motorsports & Kerry Madsen Eye Success At World Finals

Story By: SHAWN MILLER / BIG GAME MOTORSPORTS – WINDOM, MN – Big Game Motorsports driver Kerry Madsen has had a season to remember.

Madsen and the Muddy sponsored team have captured eight victories, including five with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series. That is tied for the fourth-most wins with the World of Outlaws entering the final event of the season – the Textron Off Road World Finals this Thursday through Saturday at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C.

“You’re looking forward to Charlotte because it’s a marquee event, but disappointed it’s the last race of the season,” Madsen said. “It’s bittersweet I guess you can say.”

Madsen enters the event with nine straight top-10 finishes in World of Outlaws competition. He has 25 top 10s, which ranks 10th in the series, in 30 starts with the Outlaws this season. Additionally, Madsen’s 16 top fives ranks seventh best.

“When you have a bigger schedule you’re looking forward to the season being over (at this point of the year), but if this was the middle of the season I’d be happy,” he said.

Madsen has seven career top 10s at the track, including a career-best fifth-place result during the World Finals in 2014.

“It’s a long weekend,” he said. “You’ll get a bit of everything because of all the divisions and all the cars. You have to be on point and pay attention to track conditions and what’s happening. It’s a lot more than a usual sprint car race.”

The event begins on Thursday, when qualifying is held for both the Friday and Saturday programs.

“The Thursday format is pretty intense,” Madsen said. “You have to have a good Thursday to set up the rest of the weekend. If your car is fast it’s not bad. If you’re not 100 percent on speed it’s a struggle. A little off in Charlotte and you’re a long way off. I have 100 percent confidence the car will be on point. I feel confident going into this weekend.”
