Rico Scores Back-To-Back Top-5 Finishes In Kern County Raceway’s I-5 Classic

Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / RICO ABREU RACING – ST. HELENA, CA – Hopping back in the Works Limited 57 sprint car for the first time since Arizona Speedway’s Wild Wing Shootout in late January, St. Helena, California’s Rico Abreu turned a last minute visit to Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield, California, into back-to-back top-five performances, highlighting his weekend at the inaugural I-5 Classic with a runner-up result on Saturday, March 6.

Abreu, driver of the Works Limited/Curb Records/Lucas Oil/No. 57 sprint car, started tenth on the $3,000-to-win I-5 Classic finale grid and battled forward in a hurry, pushing eventual winner, Shane Golobic, at the conclusion of the 30-lap contest. Despite falling one spot short of the ultimate goal, Abreu’s runner-up result bumped his 2021 top-five count to four in five contests.

Although a hiccup during Friday’s dash forced the Works Limited 57 to start eighth in the I-5 Classic opener, Abreu did his best to recover, eventually moving ahead three spots to finish fifth.

“It’s been a dream to drive this Works Limited 57 sprint car. I can’t thank everyone enough for the opportunity,” Rico Abreu said, who is closing in on his first victory in 2021. “Paul Silva and I keep getting better and I think our results proved that this weekend. We’re not sure of an exact plan for the coming weekends, but we want to race as often as we can.”

Rico Abreu and the Works Limited 57 team will announce an upcoming schedule as soon as it becomes available. Initial plans suggest a trip to Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford during the coming weekend; nothing is official and plans are subject to change. Fans are suggested to keep alert on social media for continuing updates.
