Montieth Comes From 12th To Win Non-Stop Lincoln 410 Sprint Feature

Story By: BILL MEYER / LINCOLN SPEEDWAY – ABBOTTSTOWN, PA – Brian Montieth continues his climb to legendary status at Lincoln Speedway. The latest feat was a win from 12th starting spot in a non-stop feature on Saturday night.

It included a thrilling three-car pass from fourth to first on lap 14.

Montieth entered the top five on lap nine as race-long leader Tyler Ross entered lapped traffic with a one and-a-half second lead over Brandon Rahmer. Rahmer was side-by-side with Ross for the race lead as the two completed lap 13. By that time, Montieth had advanced to fourth and was hot on the tail of third-place Chad Trout as all four raced nose-to-tail, side-by-side through lapped traffic. Montieth split Trout and Rahmer to move into second on the backstretch, and then went to the top side to drive around Ross for the race lead in turns three and four.

“Traffic here is everything,” said Montieth in victory lane, “Everybody had a shot to do something, and I just had to do something different.”

Montieth pulled away over the final ten laps to score a 2.41-second win over fifth-starting Chase Dietz, who advanced several spots over the final laps to cross second. Seventh starting Matt Campbell also came on strong at the end to finish third, with eighth-starting Chad Trout and Rahmer finishing fourth and fifth.

“It wasn’t a ‘gimme’ tonight. I can’t say enough about this team,” said Montieth, “We’ve struggled all-year and we should have been here more than we have. We made a lot of progress last weekend with the Outlaws. Even though we didn’t do very well time trial and heat race-wise, we finally got on the right page and I hope this continues.”

“I think a lot of it is seat time,” added Montieth, “I’ve been racing here a lot longer than most of those guys that started up there.”

When reminded that his 55th career Lincoln win moved him to within one of the great Bobby Abel, Montieth said,

“That’s something that 30 years ago I would never even though of. Thirty-five years ago I didn’t even know this place existed. There are a lot of legends in this place, and over the years I’ve learned about them.”

Ross settled for sixth, with Jim Siegel, Alan Krimes, Gerard McIntyre, Jr., and Tim Glatfelter rounding out the top ten.

Heats for the 18 “410” Sprinters were won by Krimes and Cole Young.

Jeff Halligan started on the pole and dominated the 20-lap 358 sprint car feature event, opening night of the Lincoln/Trail-Way “Shootout” for 358 sprinters. (Night #2 will be on September 1st at Trail-Way.) His second Lincoln win of the year was by seven seconds over a wild three-car battle for the runner-up spot, with Troy Wagaman, Jr. coming from seventh starting spot to hold off point leader Adrian Shaffer and Steve Owings. Todd Rittenhouse, Jr. was fifth.

Heats for the 30 “358” Sprinters were won by Wagaman, Jordan Givler, and Matt Findley, with Chandler Leiby winning the consolation.

Alan Sagi took the lead from polesitter Matt Murphy on the second lap and led the rest of the way for his first career Lincoln win in the 20-lap 358 late model feature. And his win came on a big night, as the active Auto Racing Club of Hagerstown member won on ARCH Night.

Murphy, Drew Weisser, Randy Burkholder, and Precise Racing Products point series leader Travis Mease completed the top five.

Heats for the 29 “358” Late Models were won by Bruce Kane, Cam Zeigler, and Jeremy Miller, with Steve Lowery winning the consolation.

Lincoln is back in action next Saturday night, August 29th, with DCS School of Driving Night featuring the 410 Sprints (Night #1 of three-track “Shootout” series for 410 sprints), 358 Sprints and the Classic Racing Series. In addition, we will be having York Flooring KIDS BIG WHEEL RACES.
