Dylan Westbrook Notches First Patriot Sprint Tour Win At Ohsweken

Story By: CURTIS BERLEUE / PATRIOT SPRINT TOUR – OHSWEKEN, ONT – Hometown favorite Dylan Westbrook picked up his first-ever A-Verdi Storage Containers Patriot Sprint Tour win on Friday night at the Ohsweken Speedway over Bryan Howland and Jared Zimbardi. Local Mitch Brown came home in fourth, and Scott Kreutter rounded out the top five.

Mitch Brown and Dylan Westbrook led the field to the green flag, with Westbrook jumping out to the early lead and never looking back. By lap two, fourth place starting Bryan Howland had moved up to second, where he would remain for the balance of the event.

The only caution of the night for the 360 sprints came on lap six for the 27z of Stan Zanchin who spun on the bottom of turn 2. On the ensuing restart, Jared Zimbardi was able to drive masterfully to the inside of Mitch Brown and take the third position coming off of turn 2.

By lap 12, Westbrook had begun to catch lap traffic. Bryan Howland was able to gain ground on Westbrook in traffic but was never able to get within striking distance, allowing Westbrook to lead all 25 laps en-route to Patriot Sprint Tour victory lane.

“I saw half his (Howland’s) car and I just tried to stay on top and gas it up,” stated an elated Westbrook in victory lane.

With 20 sprint cars signed into the pits, three 8-lap heat races were run. Local Mitch Brown picked up the win in heat race number one over defending PST Canada champion Jared Zimbardi and Tyler Hendricks. Heat race two went to Bryan Howland over Cory Turner and Scott Kreutter, and Glenn Styres was victorious in heat race number 3 over teammate Dylan Westbrook and Lee Winger.

The Evingham Site Excavation 9-14 Dash victory went to Jake Brown. The Prestige Pool & Spa ‘Final Finisher’ was Stan Zanchin. The Casey’s Salvage award was given to Jim Huppunen. The Shuttleworth Asphalt Sealing bonus was awarded to 11th place finisher Jake Brown.
