Burris Money Series Starts 2017 With A Bang

Column By: RYAN HILL / RPW – SELINSGROVE, PA – The sun was out, methanol was in the air, karts were back on the track and the house was packed Sunday April, 9th for the 11th Burris Money Series season opener at Selinsgrove Raceway Park.

Kart drivers from all over the east coast descended on the beautifully prepared dirt track that sits inside of Selinsgrove Speedway. The Burris Money Series is the Pennsylvania State Championship series, but walking through the pits on race day you found drivers from New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Virginia and beyond that came in hopes of taking home the cash.

Series Promoter Keith Blumenstein Sr. was excited by the impressive turnout for the 2017 season opener. “I would like to thank all the racers for coming out to the first BMS event, and I appreciate their patience with the long registration line, and all the paperwork that has to be done on opening day. We always plan on starting about an hour later for that reason, but this year we lost another hour due to the frost on the racing surface in the morning. I wanted the track to be right for the controlled practices, so I extended open practice until I felt the track was ready.”

The voice of the Burris Money Series Bobby Johnson was also excited by the racing he announced Sunday, and wanted to offer his congratulations to all the first time BMS winners.

“My hat is off to many of the classes for some great racing action.” Johnson said. “I really appreciate everyone sticking with us throughout the day, and I hope everyone left content on how the program was ran. Unfortunately, I will not be at the second BMS event due to a business trip, but I hope everyone stays safe and I look forward to seeing you at BMS #3 at Red Rock Speedway.

Engine builder Matt Chavis’ Chavis Motorsports not only sponsors the Junior Restricted class, he raced in 3 classes himself on Sunday, picking up the win in the Sr. Champ Flathead class.

“It was a great first event with a huge kart count, and I am proud to be a part of it. I am extremely grateful to be able to win a race at such a prestigious event. That was my first BMS race and I am happy to get a win” Chavis said.

The Burris Money Series will be back in action Sunday April 23rd at Selinsgrove Raceway Park, Selinsgrove, PA.
