RPW Column: Vintage Fans Get Twice The Action With River Run Weekend At Utica-Rome & Fonda

Column By: LAURIE FALLIS / RPW – FONDA, NY – One could say it’s a couple firsts for the Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modified Series (MVVDMS) this weekend.

Friday & Saturday, the Series will present the past coming alive with back-to-back stops at two of the Northeast’s most historic tracks…Utica-Rome and Fonda Speedways.

Two days…two Tracks dubbed “The Mohawk Valley River Run Weekend.” These events will give the fans and Vintage enthusiasts alike, double the pleasure with fun and exciting racing at two half-mile facilities that offer drivers very different characteristics.

The first night at Utica-Rome on Friday. This is a speedway the series has never invaded and is the first open show of the 2021 season. Officials will be awarding 25 show-up points for division runners. They will also be sharing this event with the Classics On Dirt Stock Car Club. Currently, as of press release, a total of 38 cars have registered for the evening.

Racers will be coming from all over New York state. One scheduled to attend is making the trek from Illinois. How’s that for cool?

These drivers will show fans their unique looks of the past. Those in attendance will certainly be in for a treat, getting to see three exciting features among five divisions with each crowning a victor.

  • Vintage Antique – 1969 and below
  • Vintage Sportsman and Mystiques – Two-Barrel framed cars, separated by bodies
  • Vintage Modified – Four-Barrel and newer Chassis

After our event at the Utica-Rome, the teams will head east down the Mighty Mohawk River just past lock #13. That’s where the series will dock for their second leg of the River Run Weekend at the “Track Of Champions,” Fonda Speedway.

This will be the series fourth point show and it’s fifth race overall of the 2021 season. Another great night of racing will be in-store for all the amazing fans in attendance. The racing format will be the same as Friday night with a few changes for the MVVDMS point races.

Again, NESCOT will be sponsoring the event at Fonda along with all our other fantastic series sponsors.
