Steve Bernard Nails Down Victory In Cornwall’s Back-To-The-Track Super Weekend Finale
Story By: MARTIN BÉLANGER / CORNWALL MOTOR SPEEDWAY – CORNWALL, ONT – It was day 2 of the Back to the Track Super Weekend presented by Remorquage du Plateau, Modified, Sportsman, Novice Sportsman, Lightning and Mini-Stock were in action on this beautiful night.
Mike Bowman was the early leader in the Back to the Track 50-lap event with Joey Ladouceur in second and Brian McDonald running third. Bowman built himself a sizeable lead over the field as he got into lap traffic by lap 20 when the yellow lights came on lap 23. On the restart, Ladouceur challenged Bowman for the lead but the leader was able to stay in front as Steve Bernard made his way to third when caution occurred on lap 32. While Bowman was still in front, Bernard started to make the top lane work as he passed Ladouceur for second with 10 laps to go, Bernard gained ground on Bowman and was able to pass him on lap 49 by passing him by the outside to capture the win over Bowman and Ladouceur.
Tyler Givogue was the leader in the 30-lap Next level Home Improvement feature as Fire Swamp was following him closely. Ryan Stabler made a few moves and jumped to the lead from the outside on lap 16 and pulled away from his competition. Yellow came out on lap 23. A few cautions slow the event in the final portion as a good battle happened behind the leader. Stabler remained in front to win the feature over Michael Delormier and Fire Swamp.
The 15-lap Novice Sportsman was the first feature of the evening with a solid 18 cars on the initial start. No laps were completed as an accident occurred in turn 2. On the restart, Tristan Ladouceur took the lead over Justin Cyr. Yellow lights were out on lap 3 for a second accident in turn 2, everyone left on their own power. Ladouceur had a strong race in front and won his first feature of his career in this division.
Jeffrey Weare took the lead in the Lightning Sprint feature event over Pascal Levesque and Tommy Moreau, Weare built himself a comfortable lead over the field as a yellow slowed the field on lap 7. Weare had Jordan Poirier has a dancing partner on the restart as the race built a good pace. A restart on lap 20 saw Weare staying in front as Xavier Lauzon moved to third. Weare led all the laps to capture the feature in front of Poirier and Lauzon.
The 20-lap Mini-Stock saw James Clarke taking the lead as he pulled away from the field. Clarke had a dominant run winning his second feature of the weekend over Justin Jodoin and Brandon McMillan.
