Kyle Dingwall Takes Victory On Night 1 Of Cornwall’s Back-To-The-Track Super Weekend

Story By: MARTIN BÉLANGER / CORNWALL MOTOR SPEEDWAY – CORNWALL, ONT – The Cornwall Motor Speedway was back in action as Remorquage du Plateau was sponsoring day 1 of the Back to the Track Super Weekend with Modified, Sportsman, Novice Sportsman, Pro-Stock and Mini-Stock.

Kyle Dingwall led the way in the 40-lap Modified feature in front of Kevin Hamel as Mat Williamson quickly moved to third. Dingwall was inching closer to lap traffic when caution was out Steve Bernier and Chris Herbison. Dingwall to the lead as Bernier spun out in turn two on lap 12. Dingwall back in front on the green as Williamson moved to second. Mike Stacey brought the field together as they hit the halfway point. Dingwall had a strong restart and pulled away from Williamson and Gage Morin in third. Dingwall held off Williamson and captured the first win of 2021.

In the 30-lap Sportsman feature, Jessica Power led the first two laps when an accident occurred in the front stretch. On the restart, Power stayed first with Cedric Gauvreau to second. Gauvreau used the inside lane to challenge Power for the lead with 10 laps down, he was able to pass Power on the following lap. William Racine was on the charge moving to second just before caution was out on lap 14. Gauvreau to the lead with Racine in second and Fire Swamp running third. Gauvreau had another solid run over Racine as Jarrett Herbison moved to third after starting in 15th spot. Gauvreau never looked back and won his first feature feature at the speedway.

Dave Seguin to the lead as he was challenged by Marc Lalonde. Several cautions occurred in the first portion of the feature as the top 3 composed of Lalonde, Seguin and Richard raced together. Lalonde had Richard on his backbumper. Some good racing on the restart on lap 17 as Richard pulled to the lead with Stephane Lebrun in second and Marc Lalonde in third. Richard had dominant finish and got the win.

Eric Loyer made no errors as he took the lead and never looked back to win the first Novice Sportsman feature in some years at the track.

Jeremie Goyette had a strong start in the 20-lap Mini-Stock event as James Clarke was in second and Alexis Charbonneau. Goyette and Clarke went into battle for the lead, Clarke patiently waited for an error from Goyette and Clarke was able to grab the lead on at halfway point. Clarke looked strong for the rest of the feature and got his first win of 2021.

Action continues tomorrow night for day 2 of the Back to the Track Super Weekend with basically the same lineup with the Lightning Sprints replacing the Pro-Stock.
