RPW Column: AJay Potrzebowski II Keeps Short Track Super Series South Sportsman Point Lead After Strong Finish At Selinsgrove
Column By: ROBERT SYMONDS / RPW – SELINSGROVE, PA – The 17 year old Horseheads NY native, AJay Potrzebowski II, started out with a win at the Georgetown Speedway for the 2021 Short Track Super Series 602 Crate Sportsman South Region. After such strong run to start his 2021 campaign, Potrzebowski decided to load up and head 2 hours south to Selinsgrove Speedway.
Right out of the gate, the AMP General Contracting, Morty’s Hot Spot 72 showed speed after starting 5th and grabbing the 3rd and final qualifying spot on a last lap pass in heat race 4. Some adjustments were made before feature time as the track began to widen out. Starting 16th, Potrzebowski worked his way up to the top 10 fairly quickly weaving in and out to get around other drivers. Potrzebowski found out quickly that his Fastline Performance 72 was best on the top side, riding the cushion.
“There was definitely a fine line between getting out of the groove and hitting it perfect,” Potrzebowski mentioned in a post race interview.
As the race wore on, Potrzebowski’s strong run started to fade. When the checkered flag flew, Potrzebowski crossed the line in 7th tying in hard charger for cars passed with Matt Janczuk.
“After running the top hard for so long, the tires went away at about lap 15 and I was holding on to what I could. If we had went with a harder tire, we would’ve definitely had a top 5 run.”
AJay Potrzebowski II came out of the first two races in the STSS South Region with a win and a top 10 keeping him up on top of the point lead. AJay’s next race will be at the Outlaw Speedway as he plans on running at the Dundee facility on a weekly basis.
