RPW Exclusive: Billy VanInwegen Earns Fourth Best Friday Night During DIRTcar Nationals At Volusia
Column By: ROBERT SYMONDS / RPW – BARBERVILLE, FL – With two more nights left for the DIRTcar Nationals at the Volusia Speedway Park, for some it was two more opportunities to leave Florida with good finishes to launch their 2021 Season.
Such a driver is Billy VanInwegen who has been in the hunt towards a top run.
Running the Escape RV, Len & Jo’s Racing number 4, VanInwegen has proven himself by making numerous runs inside the top 10 but the finishes didn’t back up the amount of work Billy V and his team had put in. On Friday evening, this was all about to change. Starting 7th in the 30 lap Feature event for the Super DIRTcar Series, VanInwegen quickly made some moves to get by Max McLaughlin through the middle then quickly went to the bottom.
VanInwegen saw the line change quickly before the likes of Peter Britten and Ryan Godown as he passed them both on the bottom to put himself into fourth position. VanInwegen closed in on the back bump of Billy Decker but was not able to get chance to slip by. Billy V’s fourth place finish Friday night was his best of the season and holds momentum heading into the DIRTcar Nationals Finale on Saturday evening.
“I am extremely happy to finally get a top 5,” VanInwegen exclaimed in a post race interview with Race Pro Weekly. “We have been working really hard on figuring out what the new car likes, we seemed to land on something today.”
Billy V and his team head into tomorrow nights finale with a top 10 finish, a fresh top 5 run, and the possibility of finishing well inside the top 10 for the DIRTcar Nationals Points.
