Big Diamond, New Egypt & Short Track Super Series Priorities For Mike Gular In 2021

Story By: MIKE GULAR RACING – BOYERTOWN, PA – For Mike Gular and the Terry Fasnacht race team, 2021 will bring a change of scenery.

Gular, a resident of Boyertown, Pa., plans to spend his Saturday nights in the Garden State during the upcoming ’21 season. Gular will call New Egypt Speedway in New Egypt, N.J., home on Saturday nights amidst an ambitious schedule.

In addition to Saturday racing at New Egypt, Gular will again compete regularly at Big Diamond Speedway in Minersville, Pa., on Friday nights while chasing the entire Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series
(STSS) schedule including the Hurlock Auto & Speed Supply North Region and Velocita-USA South Region.

Other high-paying events are part of the plans for the Conestoga Valley Custom Kitchens operation throughout the season.

Gular is the defending champion at Big Diamond Speedway in the 358-Modified division during a season that included a victory in the Diamond Nationals. He owns a championship at Grandview Speedway located just minutes from his home in Bechtelsville, Pa., and boasts a pair of Modified titles at Penn Can Speedway, located on the Keystone State side of the Pennsylvania-New York border in Susquehanna, Pa.

Now, he hopes to add New Egypt to that list. Why the change?

“New Egypt increased their Modified payout this year,” Gular said. “We are looking forward to running there with the extra money on the line. Terry (Fasnacht, car owner) likes the facility there a lot and the schedule gives the Modifieds one week off per month. That’s nice when you get busy in the summer racing all the midweek shows.”

Gular started his career at Grandview after watching his late father Rudy compete on the Hill in Bechtelsville. He his fond of the one-third-mile track and will miss racing regularly there. However, he will return as frequently as possible during the ’21 campaign for special events.

With several higher-paying races on the schedule, Gular and Fasnacht have carved a niche on Friday nights in the Coal Region at Big Diamond.

“Big Diamond pays well,” Gular said. “There are a lot of big paydays to run for close to home there.”

Traveling has become a big part of Gular’s agenda with the STSS.

Last season, he finished second in the North Region standings (just two points behind Stewart Friesen) and fifth in the South Region tally.

Gular started his STSS season off in victorious fashion at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla., on Jan. 30 earning $8,000-plus in the 50-lap finale. The win was his second in STSS competition, adding to an Oct. 2018 conquest at Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, N.Y.

Next up for the team is the Melvin L. Joseph Memorial March 12-13 at Georgetown Speedway in Delaware.
