RPW Column: With A New Look, Jordan Lawrence Looking For His First OCFS Win In ’21

Column By: MIKE TRAVERSE / RPW – MIDDLETOWN, NY – Early in 2020, Jordan Lawrence sold all of his equipment and was going to step away from racing. But the lure of the sport was too much.

Before long, he was back into it and prepping for the abbreviated 2020 season.

“I sold out, but then decided I wanted to get back in,” Lawrence said. “We picked up a good Hig Fab and we were able to race the last couple of weekly races at OCFS and then the Eastern States Weekend.”

Jordan was well on his way to having a great finish to his racing season. After a decent time trial, Lawrence won the first heat which gave him the 7th starting position for the 50 lap Sportsman feature. But unfortunately, it was not meant to be. After being involved in a first corner crash, another big crash on the 25th lap ended his day with a 32nd place finish and a wrecked car.

“It was extremely disappointing. The crashes were just racing deals,” Lawrence said. “We brought a different setup to the race that weekend and we had a lot of speed. We thought we were going to have a good finish, but it goes that way in racing.”

For 2021, Jordan has another Hig Fab car ready for use. His plans for the season will be for weekly competition in the Sportsman division at Orange County with some select Short Track Super Series races. And his car will have a new scheme for 2021.

“When I decided to get back racing last year, I still had the doors and quarters off of the car we sold. I put them back on the car that we acquired,” Lawrence said. “For 2021, there’s a new sharp looking scheme from Himmer Graphics and it looks great.”

It is also possible that Jordan may be in a sprint car for the OCFS July 1st USAC/Twin 50’s event. Plans are underway for that to possibly occur.

Sponsors and companies involved with the #7 JL Motorsports Hig Fab include Tim Mason Authorized Matco Tools Distributor (Latham and Chohoes area), Malley Trucking (Water Delivery, Montgomery), Rapid Tire Service (Montgomery), Pidala Oil Company (Cold Spring), Himmer Graphics (Lake Ariel, Pa.) and Hig Fab Chassis.

On race night, Jordan has as his crew Dan Malley, Paul Demott, Jimmy Pidala Sr and Jimmy Pidiala Jr. And the team can always count on Danny Creeden and his crew for assistance.

The goal for Jordan is to race his way into the OCFS Victory Lane.

“If we can hit the good setup and bring the speed, we can hit Victory Lane.”

Jordan Lawrence brings a lot of enthusiam to the sport. Good luck to this affable driver and to the #7 JL Motorsports team in 2021.
