Story By: DIRTCAR – NICHOLS, SC – It has been over five months planning, the first annual South of the Border Showdown for the Northeast DIRTcar Sportsman is ready to be showcased this weekend January 28-30 at the Lake View Motor Speedway.

Over $26,000 in cash and prizes will be ready for more than 30 competitors that have pre-registered for the event.

On Friday, the 30-lap feature event will pay the winner a cool $2,000 with $150 set to just take the green. On Saturday finds the 51-lap finale to the weekend where the winner’s share is upped to $3,000 and pays $200 to take the green.

The action on the track will be live on pay per view by Speed 51 and will be taped for a nationally televised broadcast on MAVTV.

“The weekend has come together even better than I can imagine. I have roots in New York State and to see the support coming down is just awesome,” said track owner Scott Tripp. “We approached DIRTcar in August and immediately got the ball rolling. We have been really busy here widening the track some, adding more camping, leveling the pit area, adding more lighting and just so much more to give the fans and competitors the best experience.”

Also, spawned off the South of the Border Showdown was the recently announced invasion of the Drydene Xtreme DIRTcar Series for Super Late Models on February 20th paying $7,000 to win.

The list of pre-entries for the Showdown is a stout group of competitors: 2019 DIRTcar Sportsman Champion Kevin Root will be making Lake View his swan song in the class as he will be moving up to Big Block Modifieds right after the event. Also planning on making the trip are Can-Am Speedway Champ Tyler Corcoran, Andrew Buff was co-champion at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park with Alan Fink taking the title at Thunder Mountain Speedway and Zach Sobotka the champion at the Outlaw Speedway.

Teenagers are filling the field with Derrick McGrew Jr., Seth Zacharias, Bryce Bailey and Emmett Waldron. We have two father son duos with Ajay Portzebowski Sr. and Jr., along with Mike and Johnny Bruno with both sons also teenagers.

Adding to the unique stories on the weekend, Tim Clemons, Chip Constantino join Sr. Bruno in coming out of retirement.
