Northeast Schedules Released For Short Track Super Series ’21 Modified & Sportsman Series

Story By: BRETT DEYO / SHORT TRACK SUPER SERIES – MILLSBORO, DE – In 2020, the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco led the Northeast Modified industry, navigating COVID-19 regulations to provide touring series racing and point funds for the region’s competitors.

The plan for 2021: ‘Bigger and Better.’

STSS management has released the ’21 Northeast schedule for both the STSS big-block/small-block Modifieds and Crate 602 Sportsman. Again, North and South regional breakdowns have been established with separate point funds available for each.

For the seventh consecutive year, Bob Hilbert Sportswear of Boyertown, Pa., returns as the title sponsor of the series.

All STSS events will be streamed live by Dirt Track Digest TV during the upcoming season.

“We’re very proud of the schedule we’ve put together,” STSS organizer Brett Deyo said. “We’re hopeful COVID-19 restrictions will be easing up by the spring. Of course, we will do our best to adapt and keep our racers on the track again.”

Fifteen tracks are represented on the Northeast schedule, with swings planned for both Florida (January) and Louisiana (November).

Modified South Region

The STSS Modified South Region, presented by Velocita-USA, Design for Vision and Sunglass Central, kicks off in March at Georgetown (Del.) Speedway with the annual Melvin L. Joseph Memorial race on March 13. The event pays $10,049 to win for 49 laps in ’21. A Friday (March 12) preliminary night leads into the Saturday main event.

Georgetown boasts three stops on the schedule, including the ‘Blast at the Beach’ on Aug. 24 and the Mid-Atlantic Championship Weekend on Oct. 29-30.

A Central Pennsylvania doubleheader is planned for March 20-21 with Selinsgrove (Pa.) Speedway making a first-time series schedule appearance on Saturday, complimenting the first of two ’21 visits to Port Royal (Pa.) Speedway Sunday.

Charlie Cathell’s Delaware International Speedway in Delmar, Del., returns to an early-season date with the ‘Diamond State 50’ slated for April 27.

The Garden State of New Jersey is well represented in ’21. New Egypt (N.J.) Speedway (May 25) and Doug Rose’s new Bridgeport (N.J.) Motorsports Park high-banked layout (July 27) make their respective returns to the STSS.

August features stops at traditional STSS Empire State venues of Woodhull (N.Y.) Raceway (Aug. 10) and Thunder Mountain Speedway in Center Lisle, N.Y. (Aug. 31).

After being halted by state restrictions for one year, the Fonda 200 brings its $53,000 payday back to the Fonda Speedway Sept. 16-18.

The Short Track SuperNationals at Ron Ford’s Afton (N.Y.) Motorsports Park wraps up the North Region with the ‘Working Man’s Race’ Short Track SuperNationals on Columbus Day weekend.
