Georgetown’s October 2nd Event Kicks Off Huge Delaware Auto Racing Weekend

Story By: BRETT DEYO / GEORGETOWN SPEEDWAY – GEORGETOWN, DE – A huge weekend of racing in Delaware gets underway at Georgetown Speedway on Friday, October 2.

The Sussex County half-mile track roars back into action with the second 2020 appearance by the wingless Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars taking part in qualifying heat races and a 25-lap feature. The USAC contingent visited Georgetown on July 24 this season with Modified ace Ryan Watt driving Tim Hogue’s No. 39 to the victory over Christopher Allen, Steve Drevicki, Billy Van Inwegen and Kyle Spence.

L&J Sheet Metal Modifieds are back in a $3,000-to-win, 25-lap main as the Georgetown Sunoco Race Fuels championship battle continues. Joseph ‘Jo Jo’ Watson thrilled the Delaware crowd with a victory in the most recent Modified event Sept. 11. Billy Pauch Jr. leads the track standings with two events (Oct. 2 and Oct. 31) remaining.

For the first time since the Aug. 25 ‘Blast at the Beach’ the Chesapeake Paving/J.W. Brown Trucking Crate 602 Sportsman return with $1,000 going to the winner of the 20-lap main. Joe Toth is currently atop the Crate 602 Sportsman points. Like their Modified counterparts, the Crate 602 Sportsman have two more points-paying shows on the schedule: Oct. 2 and Oct. 31.

Completing the program are the Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars (12 laps), Little Lincolns (12 laps), Delaware Super Trucks (12 laps) and Delmarva Chargers (12 laps).

The Georgetown event will be open to in-person attendance and will be broadcast LIVE on Dirt Track Digest TV.

Once the checkered drops at Georgetown on Oct. 2, attention turns approximately 25 miles to the southwest, where the Cathell family’s Delaware International Speedway (Delmar) hosts the 48th annual Camp Barnes Benefit Stock Car race Saturday, Oct. 3 giving teams the opportunity to compete twice during their stay in Delaware.

On the docket for Delmar Saturday are the Modifieds (25 laps, $3,000 to win), Super Late Models (25 laps, $3,000 to win), RUSH Late Models (20 laps, $1,000 to win), Crate 602 Sportsman (20 laps, $1,000 to win), Mod Lites (15 laps), Delaware Super Trucks (12 laps), Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars (12 laps) and Little Lincolns (12 laps).
