Brendan Gibbons Takes Win Number Two Of 2020 At Glen Ridge Motorsports Park Sunday
Story By: JACOB MACDONALD / GLEN RIDGE MOTORSPORTS PARK – FULTONVILLE, NY – Sunday Night was a night of first time winners in 2020 picking up their second career wins as Brendan Gibbons, Harley Sheppard, & Buck Gasner all picked up their second wins of 2020 as well as their second wins at the ridge in their respective divisions.
In the Red Chair 602 DIRTcar Crate Sportsman feature, it was Scotty McCoy leading the field to the green flag. However, Brendan Gibbons used the outside lane and took the lead away from McCoy. Gibbons had a comfortable margin until a lap 10 caution came out as Bill August had hit an infield tire over in turn two.
Gibbons pulled away on the ensuing restart but McCoy stayed close to Gibbons. McCoy waited for Gibbons to slip up but the thing was, Gibbons never slipped up as he took his B24 back to victory lane for the second time in 2020. Scott McCoy had to settle for second, while Andrew Buff, Tony Farone & Travis Green completed the top five.
In the Yurkewecz Auto Crusher DIRTcar Pro stocks, Ken Griffin grabbed the early race lead away from Matt Gronki out of turn two. However, he had “The Iceman” Ivan Joslin pressuring him. Griffin ended up looping the car in turns three & four. Joslin managed to miss it but the current point leader Luke Horning spun to avoid Griffin.
Joslin took the lead on the ensuing restart but chaos would ensue as Andy Graves & Luke Horning were involved in an incident at the exit of turn four. Horning would continue on but Graves wouldn’t.
Joslin once again was leading off the restart but the man who will brake for bisket was on his tail as Buck Gasner took the lead & had a decent lead until a lap 17 yellow came out for Matt Gronki who spun out at the bottom of turn two.
Gasner led off the restart but Joslin looked to the top as a last ditch effort. It was all for naught as Gasner picked up his second win of 2020. Joslin finished in second while Horning wheeled his 2h machine back up to third. Beau Ballard finished fourth & Steve Cosselman rounded out the top five.
Limited Sportsman action got underway as Joseph Venditti & Carter Gibbons sat on the front row for the 20 lap feature event. Gibbons took the early lead & it looked like he had the car to beat. That was until a caution came out for the 3 of Tanner Warner & 1B of Brett Mortensen getting their bumpers tangled up in turn two.
Venditti would use the restart to his advantage as he took the lead out of turn two & never looked back as he would go on to pick up his first career win in limited sportsman competition at the ridge. Stephen Gray would finish second while Carter Gibbons, Tanner Warner & Troy Ziles completed the top five.
The 15 lap street stock feature saw Harley Sheppard go back to back after picking up his first career win last Sunday night in a green to checkers 15 lap feature. “Crazy” Kenny Allen finished in second, Adam Tranka finished third, Damon Anderson finished fourth & Jason Samrov completed the top five.
In the All Star Slingshots, there were 500 additional reasons for each driver in the field to bring their A game as Northeast Paving & Sealcoating put up the bonus money.
Andrew Millard & Bob Morey led the field to the flagstand. Millard would get the early lead but it wouldn’t be for long as on the second lap of the race, Spencer Cherko passed Millard for the lead. A yellow soon after that bunched everyone up & gave Tavien Blowers a perfect opportunity as he restarted fifth from his 13th starting spot & took the lead from Cherko as they came out of turn four to complete the fifth lap of the race. A yellow came out just one lap later for an incident that included Tucker Jones & Tyler Holcomb.
Things got hairy off the ensuing restart as Mike Hill got into the back of Blowers going into turn one & turned him around in front of the field which ended up collecting the 330 of Joe Smith & the 6xxx of Don Boonstra. Hill would be sent to the tail for his involvement in the incident.
Spencer Cherko would assume the lead once again & wouldn’t give it up as he picked up win number two of the 2020 season. Brock Pinkerous would come home in the runner up spot, Tavien Blowers would rebound for third, Darryn Fallis came home fourth & Tyler Vadney finished fifth.
In the Jr Slingshots, it was all Liam Jackson as he made a daring move in the first set of corners of the 12 lap feature to go from fourth to first and from there, he went wire to wire to pick up his first career win at the ridge. Lucas Duncan would come home in the runner up spot while Ryan McCoy, Frank Twing Jr, & Hayden Ackernachdt completed the top five.
The Mini Stock 15 lap features were won by Wayne Russell Jr who picked up win #5 of 2020 in the single cam & Josh Kane took home yet another dual cam win.
