RPW Column: Colt Harris Returning To His Roots; “The Pony Express” To Run Big Diamond In ’20

RPW Column By: BRAD KEITSOCK / RPW – HEGINS, PA – ‘The Pony Express’ rides again at Big Diamond Speedway in 2020.

Local 33-year-old, Hegins Pa racer Colt Harris and his family-owned race team will return to weekly Friday night racing wars at the Minersville, PA oval this upcoming season.

Harris mentioned, “My work schedule kept me from racing anywhere full time the last few years.”

Its been since 2015 since Harris was a weekly regular at Big Diamond Speedway.

Now Harris has his work schedule set up that allows him to return to his roots and get back to racing weekly on Friday nights at the track he grew up at and his family has a long history of being a part of.

“I’m excited to be back at Big Diamond this year. The new surface they put down looked really good. It produced good racing, especially the Coal Cracker race last year.” explained Harris.

Harris will have his #7 Bicknell race car ready to go when the season starts at Big Diamond Speedway Friday night April 10th, with two spec small block motors at his disposal, one built by Larry Lombardo the other built by Dave George.

Harris explained, “The track really seemed to get wider as the year went on last season at Big Diamond, which produces good racing, thats what the racers want and thats what the fans want.”

Harris is a multiple time feature winner in that past at Big Diamond Speedway, visiting victory lane at the Minersville Pa facility three times over his racing career.

And with Harris and his family being local racers, and beating many of the sports biggest names on those occasions, the celebrations were some of the most memorable in the speedways history.

Harris and his team would love to create some more of those memorable celebrations in 2020.

Harris offered, “I’m just looking forward to getting back to where it all started for us.”

So once the 2020 Big Diamond Speedway season gets the green flag in April, and the cars and stars kick up the clay, its going to be a welcomed sight seeing Colt Harris behind the wheel of his #7 modified, back out on his home track where it all started for him and where he belongs.
