Column By: ROBERT SYMONDS / RPW – CONCORD, NC – Just after the dust had settled from Super DIRTcar Series Qualifying, it was time for qualifying heat race events. First up was the heat races for the Saturday Night portion of the World Finals weekend at the Dirt Track At Charlotte.
In Heat Race 1, Mike Maresca was able to out duel the Hile Driver Chris Hile right off the drop of the green. Maresca led the race flag to flag to win over Hile by 2 seconds. Anthony Perrego finished 3rd, Brian Swartzlander 4th, and Billy Dunn 5th.
Heat Race 2 took off like the first as Mat Williamson held off Max McLaughlin to win by 1.9 seconds. Billy Pauch Jr would pass Mike Mahaney on lap 2 to finish 3rd, Mahaney 4th, and Gary Tomkins finished 5th.
Demetrios Drellos started on the pole for heat 3 and would lead all 8 laps to win over Erick Rudolph by 1.8 seconds, Brett Hearn finished 3rd. Tyler Siri passed Ryan Godown late in the heat after Godown got into the wall. So Siri would finish 4th and Godown would settle for 5th.
Billy Decker would do what others before him have done. Decker went flag to flag to win heat 4 over Matt Sheppard by 1.398 seconds. Tim Fuller would finish 3rd, Jimmy Phelps finished 4th, and Danny Johnson bests Larry Wight to finish 5th.
This sets the field for the Saturday Night Portion.
