Hunt The Giant, USS Achey Night & Backpack Giveaway Friday Night At Big Diamond

Story By: KENNETH BRUCE / BIG DIAMOND SPEEDWAY – MINERSVILLE, PA – After a long stretch of Friday night racing, Mother Nature rose her ugly head last Friday night forcing Big Diamond Speedway to cancel. Racing returns to the 4/10’s mile dirt oval this Friday August 9th with a big night in store for the fans.

It will be Hunt the Giant night on Friday as well as USS Achey night with live music and free ice cream being provided to the fans before the night’s racing get going.

Once again, this season, the speedway along with Elk Motorsports have teamed up for the annual “Back to School” backpack giveaway night. All bags are filled with school supplies. There will be an entry box inside the grandstand area for entries and the winners will be drawn at intermission. The backpack giveaway is open to kids 12 and under.

With the season quickly winding down, the race for the track championships are starting to heat up. Craig Von Dohren is the current points leader in the Insignger Performance Modified division with Ryan Godown and Duane Howard lurking right behind. The modifieds will compete in a 25-lap feature race on Friday as they start to get their ground pounding modifieds tuned up for the end of the year special big money races.

The USS Achey Sportsman division will have some extra cash available on Friday night as they compete in the “Sportsman 30 Fayash Memorial” with $1,570 going to the winner. Doug Hendricks will be looking to add to his season win total as he has been the dominate car in the sportsman division all season leading the way for the track title by a wide margin.

The Savage 61 Road Runners along with the Eash’s Towing & Recovery Street Stocks will also be on the card for Friday night providing their always exciting brand of racing.

Gates open Friday night at 5:30pm with warmups getting underway at 7:15pm. Racing will begin promptly at 7:45pm.

Friday’s general admission is $20, Seniors $18, Kids 11-12 are $10, Kids 10 & under are admitted free of charge. Active military with valid ID are free.
