RPW Exclusive: Sponsors Have Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modified Series Shining At Fonda

Column By: LAURIE FALLIS / RPW – GLOVERSVILLE, NY – The Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modified Series (MVVDMS) will be making their way to the Vintage “Mystique Rush” at Fonda Speedway this Saturday.

The series is looking forward to be going to one of the most prestigious dirt tracks in the Eastren part of the country . The drivers will be bringing the past into the present and what better place then to at the historic “Track Of Champions.”

This will be the first of four 2019 visits to a speedway rich in history and memories of the greatest dirt drivers out their that has ever been in a racecar. It’s too hard to count the drivers that once raced at the famed oval and went on to legendary status in different types of racing.

The series is looking forward to giving the fans a ride back in time as there will be cars representing many of the eras of days gone by. It’s also about letting the younger generation see how the past looked while learning the history so they can carry it on into the future.

Our new class, Vintage Antique has been a big hit with the fans. These cars are the real deal. 1969 and older authentic race cars out on the track, bringing the older fans great memories of their youth.

The Vintage replica’s consists of cars from the 70’s and up that carry a body representative of an older machine, no newer than 1988. Many cars represent their favorite drivers that were cheered for by many back in the day. It’s all about keeping the memories of the heroes alive and passing that on to younger fans.

A great thing about being at the Fonda Speedway is that new promoter Brett Deyo is keeping the history of Fonda by letting the series park their cars in the infield, just as former promoter, Pete Demetraszek, did. Not only is it great for the fans, but it brings back memories of how this happened back in the day. MVVDMS thanks Brett for acknowledging the importance.

Saturday will also be a New York State Stock Car Association (NYSSCA) Safety Award night this for the Vintage drivers. This will be the second year with NYSSCA and the series is truly honored to be a part of their recognition.

Everyone is highly encouraged to join NYSSCA if they haven’t already. They truly give back to the racing family, especially when in need.

More great news coming out of the series is that Tommy and Sharon Spencer will be sponsoring the “Grand Finale” for the series at Fonda on Saturday, September 14th. When I say grand, that’s exactly what Spencer Racing will be handing out, Yes, $1,000 will be split up evenly to each competitor that takes the green (example 25 cars =$40 each).

For those that don’t know who Tom Spencer is, he’s a Fonda Hall of Fame Car Owner. with such drivers as Ray Dalmata, Jack Johnson, Floyd Billington and Mike Romano. Romano gave Tom a championship in 1990 in the Modified division. Tim Clemens gave Spencer three championships in the Sportsman class from 1990-92.

Let’s add one more to the list, as Chad Edwards is Tom’s current driver and is the defending Fonda Speedway Sportsman Track Champion. Tom has been an owner since 1985 and its people like this that really help to keep dirt racing thriving.

As the series promoter, when Tom said he wanted to help us, I never dreamed how much. I was pleasantly shocked. He told me to do whatever I felt best to give back to the series’ dedicated drivers…that’s why I felt it was best to distribute the money evenly. Everyone is putting on the show.

This is MVVDMS Vintage Racing. It’s about keeping the history and drivers memories alive and strong. It’s feels great to have such amazing people stepping up to support this series.

We are also extremely lucky and honored to have the marketing partners we do and take pride in preserving our sport’s history while never letting the past fade away.
