RPW Exclusive: 2019 Will Be A Great Year For The Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modified Series

Column By: LAURIE FALLIS / RPW – FULTONVILLE, NY – With vintage racing on the rise in the Mohawk Valley and the Capital District, What better place for the Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modified Series (MVVDMS) to get their season rolling at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway on Friday, May 17th.

After a year off at the “Great Race Place” the series is excited to be getting back to the track were the drivers are dedicated in showing the young fans what the different era’s of racing looked liked of the past. And for the older fans it’s to bring back the memories of their favorite drivers or just the looks of the cars in their child hood days.

In 2019, MVVDMS is excited about their new class. Hitting the track for the first time for the series is the Vintage Antique!

This is a class for the true Authentic cars of 1969 and below as they will get their time to shine with out having to worry about running with the newer cars of the Vintage Sportsman and Modifieds along with late models.

Over the winter, I (Series promoter) reached out to the three area promoters in which we will be running our point series shows, being at Albany-Saratoga,(DeVore) , Fonda,(Deyo) and Glen Ridge Motorsports, co promoter(Hazzard) if they would be on board allowing for a mini feature for this class. All three graciously agreed.

So, as they say, if you build it they will come!

It’s a great chance for the true framed cars to have a place to race and show the fans the cars from yesteryear while having a great time doing it.

Our other feature consist of Vintage Modifieds, Sportsmans and Latemodels which offers an array of different body styles representing our many era’s of racings past with replicas that represents their favorite driver or car.

So as you can see we offer four different classes for four different winners at each one of our races. Two feature! Four times the fun!!

I was able to reach out to Albany-Saratoga Speedway Promoter Lyle DeVore and ask him does he feel vintage racing is important?

“It’s totally important for the newest fan right up to the older fan, it’s a great experience for both, the new fans get a chance to see the history of dirt stock car racing and the older generation, well it bring back some great memories.”

“I think vintage racing is great! I have always been a fan of racing growing up around my father Stan DeVore. As a young kid my dad started the Norsemens Street Rods out of Gloversville, NY and each year they would parade around Fonda Speedway during intermission. It was a lot of fun and some great memories” Lyle said.

Oh! and when asked him who was his favorite driver when growing up, He stated, CD Coville!

“As promoters we all should take responsibility on having Vintage racing at the tracks to maintain and move forward in keeping the young involved, teaching them the history of our great sport, so it will never be forgotten from generation to generation.” Lyle stated.

It’s very important in vintage racing, to keep an existence growing for all series and clubs to have great communication and calibration with each other to keep vintage racing alive and strong. And alway keep in mind the true meaning and what it stands for.

MVVDMS has the support of drivers committed at Malta from the Champlain Valley Vintage Racing Club, Northeastern Vintage Modified Racing Club, and Classics On Dirt. All together preserving our history.
