Rain Postpones Big Diamond Season Opener to Friday, April 19th, “Money in the Mountains” Race Now Scheduled for April 26th.
Story By: KENNETH BRUCE / BIG DIAMOND SPEEDWAY – POTTSVILLE, PA – Mother Nature has decided yet again to put a damper on the start of the racing season at the Big Diamond Speedway. Friday’s forecasted rain for the evening has forced the Smulley’s to push back the season opener to Friday night April 19th. Due to the rescheduling of the opener, the annual “Money in the Mountains” race will now take place on Friday, April 26th.
Next Friday’s program will duplicate the original scheduled opener. It will be Schaeffer’s Motorsport night at the speedway with the Insinger Performance modifeds running a $4000 to win 30-lap main event. The USS Achey sportsman will also run for some extra cash with a 20-lap $1000 to win main event. Filling out the night will be the Eash’s Towing and Salvage Street Stocks and the Savage 61 Road Runners. As an added bonus for the street stocks, Don Murphy will be sponsoring the hard charger award each and every week the division competes.
When the season does get underway, it will be most exciting season ever at the dirt oval with more money available for the competitors than ever offered before The modified world has taken notice with multiple drivers scheduled to call the Big Diamond Speedway home on Friday nights and take on the track regulars. Willy Osmun III and Kyle Rochinski have recently added their names to an already crowded list of drivers that will be calling the speedway home of Friday nights. The roster of drivers scheduled to compete weekly at Big Diamond is second to none with each and every one of them wanting to take home some of the big money being offered by track owners and promoters Jake and Jasmine Smulley.
Gates will open at 5:00pm on Friday night with warmups starting at 7:15pm. Racing will start at 7:45pm.
General admission for this Friday is $20. Kids 10 & under and active military with valid ID are admitted free of charge.
Once opening day is completed, all focus will be on the annual “Money in the Mountains” race set for Friday night April 26th. This year’s race sponsored by Fire Management Control of Pennsylvania; Inc will be the biggest to date with the winner of the feature event receiving $10,000. This year’s MITM race will be run under the rules of the Brett Deyo Short Track Super Series (No Sail Panels).
