Albany-Saratoga’s Season Opener Gets Rained Out…Again
Story BY: TOM BOGGIE / ALBANY-SARATOGA SPEEDWAY – MALTA, NY – Oh-for-2. That’s the success rate at Albany-Saratoga Speedway after the season-opening “Come ‘N Get It” Modified Shootout was rained out for the second time in five days Tuesday night.
Over 130 cars, including a star-studded field of 40 modifieds, packed the pits for opening night, but rain rolled into the Malta region while the heats were still being run, prematurely ending the night.
Promoter Lyle DeVore wants to reschedule the race for sometime in the next two weeks.
“I’ve got to take a look at the schedule for the next couple of weeks and make sure I don’t go up against anybody else,” he said. “I should have a decision by Friday.”
No matter the new date, Anthony Perrego, one of the many invaders who signed in Tuesday night, will start on the pole of the 54-lap “Come ‘N Get It” shootout, by virtue of his victory in the first modified heat race.
Other modified heat race winners were Billy Decker, Larry Wight and Matt Sheppard, who will also benefit from the heads-up start.
