Rico Abreu Opens 2019 Sprint Car Season With Podium Finish At Stockton Dirt Track

Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / RICO ABREU RACING – ST. HELENA, CA – Rico Abreu’s 2019 sprint car season is officially underway, kicking things off with 360 sprint car competition at the Stockton Dirt Track in Stockton, California.

Certainly no stranger to the Stockton Dirt Track, Abreu, aboard his Rico Abreu Racing/Curb Agajanian/Abreu Vineyards/Lucas Oil/Curb Records/Priority Aviation/No. 24 sprint car, finished second during the $2,000-to-win afternoon special, climbing ahead one position on a narrow, but quick 4/10-mile clay oval.

“It was nice to get back in a sprint car,” Rico Abreu said, who won the Gary Patterson Tribute at Stockton to conclude his 2018 season. “I can’t thank my team enough for their hard work and dedication. Obviously, we ended last season on a pretty solid note. It was nice to continue that momentum this weekend. We have a few weeks off before we race again, but we’ll be ready to go.”

Rico Abreu and Rico Abreu Racing/Curb Agajanian will enter the bulk of their 2019 campaign fresh off of a competitive season in 2018. The St. Helena, Calif., native earned five victories last year, three of which taking shape in his home state of California. Perhaps Abreu’s most memorable moment in 2018 took shape in Pevely, Mo., when the pilot of the familiar No. 24 took out the Outlaws for a $20,000 top prize during the annual Ironman 55. It was Abreu’s second consecutive Ironman 55 title.
