RPW Exclusive: Indoor Midget Races Next Up For Sprint Car Racer Ryan Smith
Column By: NICHOLAS FILLMAN / RPW – INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Ryan Smith, the versatile open-wheel driver from Kunkletown, PA, will make his next pair of starts aboard one of the Sarah Fisher Racing, Beast Chassis at two Indoor Midget races, starting next weekend.
While talking with Smith at the Performance Racing Industry Show in Indianapolis, the driver made indoor season plans known,
Smith, who is coming off a year that saw him return to the All Star Circuit of Champions in mid-summer with Sam McGhee Motorsports, plans to be back with the Fisher Team for yet another round of midget racing. He competed at the Chili Bowl last year with Fisher as a teammate to Kyle O’Gara and also competed in the inaugural BC 39 dirt race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, again as a teammate to O’Gara and Dave Darland.
The young driver feels right at home in the midget ranks, despite running the majority of the season in a 410 winged sprint car. He’s captured many victories in a midget, running on tracks in Pennsylvania with the ARDC Series and also has wingless micro sprint experience.
The team, with Smith behind the wheel, will start off their indoor season together next weekend at the Southern Illinois Center in DuQuoin, IL, before heading to the Tulsa Expo Center for the Chili Bowl once January rolls around.
Smith and the Fisher team will have their hands full running against the most talented fields of midgets in the world for these two events. However, the team will be contenders once cars hit the track.
