Rico Abreu Back on Top During Keller Auto Speedway’s Cotton Classic

Story By: RICO ABREU RACING – ST. HELENA, CA – Rico Abreu was a man on a mission Saturday night at Keller Auto Speedway, ultimately snagging his fourth victory of the 2018 season, the second in his home state of California.

Abreu, driver of the Rico Abreu Racing/Abreu Vineyards/Alpinestars/Rhino Wipe/Lucas Oil Products/Priority Aviation/No. 24 sprint car, earned his Keller Auto Speedway triumph during the Sprint Car Challenge Tour (SCCT) segment of the 33rd Annual Cotton Classic. Accomplished from the pole position, Abreu’s 360 sprint car victory was worth $2,500, adding his win in Hanford to a list that already includes victories in Missouri, Illinois, and Chico, California. It was a second consecutive Cotton Classic victory for the St. Helena native.

“Man, this is awesome. I owe this all to my team. They work so hard and I appreciate it. They keep believing in me and never give up,” Rico Abreu explained after his win. “Everything is clicking right now and it feels great. Winning is awesome, but doing so in California is even better. We spent so much time out in the Midwest this summer, so to come home and get some wins in my home state is great. I’m excited for next weekend.”

After winning the SCCT dash, Abreu went on to start from the pole position on Saturday night at Keller Auto Speedway. Despite giving up the top spot to Shane Golobic, Abreu persevered, utilizing a restart with ten laps in the books to get back around the Elk Grove Ford entry. Forced to withstand multiple takeover attempts and slide jobs, Abreu held on to score the Cotton Classic payday.

Rico Abreu’s 2018 campaign will continue with Thunderbowl Raceway’s 25th Annual Trophy Cup on Thursday through Saturday, October 18-20. The three-day, 360 sprint car blockbuster will award $4,000 on all three nights of competition, but the weekend point leader will earn a $13,000 grand prize. The total weekend payout equals $200,000.
